Once Upon a Time in Mexico Once Upon a Time in Mexico

Reviews

This is another Brilliant Mexican Album. As soon as I watched the movie 'Once Upon A Time In Mexico', I knew I must have that music to be able to play at my fingertips and not have to play the DVD movie to hear it again. It did not take long to find and soon I'll be playing that music on my own guitar. Thanks to the artist Robert Rodriguez for his music book which can be found and purchased at [...] for a small price. Buy the DVD as well Featuring 'Salma Hayek, Antonio Banderas (Take the Lead) , and Johnny Depp (Edward Scissorhands). Antonio Banderas fantastic performance playing 'Guitar Town' in the Streets of Mexico was amazing and the highlight of the whole movie soundtrack of 'Once Upon A Time In Mexico'.

THE SOUNDTRACK ITSELF IS 5 STAR...JUST DON'T BUY IT OR ANYTHING ELSE FROM A SHIPPER CALLED "NEWBURY_COMICS". THEY TOOK MY MONEY BUT NEVER SHIPPED THE ITEM, WHEN I INQUIRED ABOUT IT THEY SAID THAT IT HAD NEVER BEEN AVAILABLE IN THE FIRST PLACE (THEN WHY DID YOU a-ADVERTISE IT FOR SALE and b-ACCEPT PAYMENT FOR IT?) & CLAIMED THAT THEY'D ALREADY INITIATED A REFUND. A FULL WEEK LATER I HAD TO FILE WITH AMAZON A-Z TO GET MY MONEY BACK. BE CAREFUL OUT THERE!

Ok - with so many reviews what can I add? Surf guitar meets mariachi, say no more? Much more!! solid throughout - but rodriguez's elfman/surf/mariachi ironically classical (?) soundtrack touch somehow adds so much - w/ the exception of one outta control hornzaganza indulgence...which ends up working just right anyhow. If you saw the movie & liked the music then, don't hesitate to purchase the cd - it may well be one of the best you'll ever own. It is mine, out of a few thousand...

This is a fantastic soundtrack full of great music in the latin mold. I loved the Desperado soundtrack a lot but this really has more variety. Now I have discs by Del Castillo, Patricia Vonne, Juno Reactor,Marcos Loya, and Manu Chow, all who I was unfamiliar with before picking up this disc. And who would have thought Salma Hayek could sing like that!! Overall, a great listening experience and very influential to me.

I remembered the music in the movie as being a little better than it actually is. I was a little disappointed in the CD.

Saosin Saosin

Reviews

(my first real music review so please be patient with me :) ) Just got my new copy of the "Saosin EP" in the mail today. I gotta say, it's a good, stand alone EP album by one of my favorite bands. I picked up "Saosin" about 2 years ago (when I just heard about them) so didn't get into the whole "Anthony" vs "Cove" arguments like I see today. But anyway, just gotta say that even this EP would have been enough to get me hooked on Saosin. This being pretty much a demo Cd of the "Saosin" Album you would think it would just be a waste to spend a few bucks more to hear the old versions. don't let that stop you, It's easily one of the Best EP's I have heard in awhile (and it's nice to hear what some of the songs sounded like before making it to the official CD) So I would say, if your a Saosin fan, pick this one up 5/5 Andrew

I was somewhat dissapointed because I thought Anthony Green was the vocalist for the first Saosin demo. I loved the product but I missed Anthony! Catch him with Circa Survive!

This was my last purchase of the Saosin collection. I bought it just so I could say I owned it, I already own the other two. I'll write this as if I had not heard the new album, it would probably be much more enjoyable. Actually, this gets 4 stars just for the fact that the songs they did make on here they improved on [Bury your head I have nothing to say about, honestly I couldn't tell the difference]. But "I want another fast song" and "New Angel" were GREATLY improved. Lost symphonies, I didn't care for. I cringed when Cove tried to be Anthony, it just doesn't work for him. Cove is amazing, as Cove, not Anthony.

Really not a bad little EP. Of course its not as good overall as "Translating the Name," but its still rather interesting to hear as it shows that transition point between "Translating" and their first full length. In fact I really like the sound they have on "I Wanna Hear Another Fast Song," and "New Angel." Those songs are much more raw than their new LP versions and they show that cove does have quite a good voice without all the production. In fact "New Angel" is one of my favorite Saosin songs, I wish they would have stuck with it. Also the general opinion is that this version of "Bury Your Head" is much better than the new one, and I would have to agree. If you want to take a look at an unpolished, rebuilding-stage Saosin, this will do fine. Although it may be looked down upon by most fans, you might be surprised, there really is a lot of emotion here. It was what first introduced me to Saosin, I loved it then and I still love it now.

seriously man I didn't really dig this EP. translating the name was a masterpiece but this... well lets just say bury your head acoustic is the only reason it's good. The truth is the same songs on this album are on the LP. It has a different vocalist but in my opinion anthony green doesn't shine as well as he did in the first ep or circa survive. sleepers > I wanna hear another Fast song. Enough said.

Two for Texas [VHS] Two for Texas [VHS]

Reviews

This film stars Kris Kristofferson and Scott Bairstow as two fugitives from Louisiana. They go on the run after killing one of the two sadistic bosses (who also happen to be brothers) of the prison camp. The other boss begins a Captain Ahab-type of pursuit after the two escapees. Kristofferson's character knows about the war for independence occuring in Texas and figures the best chance they have of escape is to join Sam Houston's army. Along the way, an Indian slave joins the duo and Barstow's character and her fall in love. However, the two must separate when they make a dash for Houston's camp.Kirstofferson is perfect in roles like this one and Bairstow doesn't do too bad of a job either, though the change in his character was a bit difficult to believe initially. Also, Tom Skerrit makes a great supporting performance as Gen. Sam Houston. The movie starts off on a quick and upbeat pace, but slows down not long after the two convicts escape. From there the tempo of the movie becomes rather unsteady until the lead characters meet up with Houston. Then on out the movie remains at an upbeat pace that's quite enjoyable to watch. There are a few historical inaccuracies, but in some places the film is more accurate than some big budget films about Texan independence.Overall, a simple little Western about Texas' fight for independence that is rather enjoyable to watch.

The Turner cable-TV movie, 'Two for Texas' will undoubtedly be compared with 'James Michener's Texas', another made-for-TV production that covers much the same ground. But while 'Michener's Texas' suffers from attempting to tell too much, becoming bogged down in melodramatic elements, 'Two for Texas' is a lean, rugged adventure that uses famous characters (Sam Houston, Jim Bowie) in support of the story, instead of as its focus, making this a FAR more enjoyable film! The story begins with a chain gang in Louisiana, in early 1836. When one of the sadistic 'bosses' is accidentally murdered, two convicts escape, and head for Texas, hoping to start a new life, serving under General Sam Houston. The older of the pair, Hugh Allison (Kris Kristofferson), in prison for killing a card shark, takes events as they come, with the easy grace of a 'survivor'; Son Holland (Scott Bairstow), the younger man, left Tennessee for adventure, only to be sentenced for ten years after being falsely accused of stealing a woman's purse. Hot-headed and naive, Holland is dependent on Allison's wisdom to survive. The journey to Texas is reminiscent of Howard Hawk's 'The Big Sky', as the two frontiersmen share a series of adventures, culminating in 'ownership' of a young Indian girl (Irene Bedard), who has a brief affair with Holland before being sent back to her tribe. The brother of the murdered boss relentlessly trails the pair, until they are 'rescued' by Houston's men. In the 'Texican' camp, they meet General Houston, portrayed with quiet authority by Tom Skerritt, and Jim Bowie (a miscast but likable Peter Coyote). Bowie and Allison are old hell-raising friends, and, in one of the film's more light-hearted scenes, recount a few of the more famous tales of the inventor of the famous knife! Bowie is leaving for the Alamo, but asks the pair to remain with Houston, as the Texas army trains for battle. With the fall of the Alamo eminent, Allison and Holland decide to join their friend Bowie, but arrive too late; the mission is a scene of carnage, with hundreds of bodies scattered among the ruins. Watching Texans' bodies being unceremoniously burned, they encounter Susannah Dickinson (Karey Green), a survivor, and wife of one of the defenders, In semi-shock, she tells of the final assault, and the deaths of her husband, and Davy Crockett; her monologue is the film's highpoint. Carrying a letter for Sam Houston from General Santa Anna, she takes the men to the body of Jim Bowie (a sadly moving scene, as Allison retrieves Bowie's knife). The trio then return to Houston's forces, vowing revenge! The story is not without historical flaws, particularly in its presentation of the historical Mrs. Dickinson, but the film never loses momentum, and benefits from Kristofferson's craggy charm, as the plain-spoken Allison. This is the kind of role he does best, and he plays it to the hilt!'Two for Texas' is a welcome addition to the select group of films about the Alamo, and Texas' struggle for independence!

I love this movie! The Iggy Pop And Tom Waits scene Is so Hilarious and Awkward and the oneupmanship is insane! The movie is worth watching just for that.

I just recently stumbled across 'Coffee and Cigarettes' at the library and I thought why not rent it it's free. I would not have paid a penny for this movie. It was extremly painful to sit through. I made it 20 minutes and couldn't take anymore. I'm not going to pretend to be a fan of Jim Jarmusch, but I enjoyed 'Stranger in Paradise' and 'Broken Flowers' which I highly recommend. The line up of actors were good, but the movie did not deliver. It felt as if all the actors were amateur. I could keep going, but really their is no point. It's just that bad. In the future I'll check out more movies by him. I don't doubt his talent. This one I have to give a one star.

"Cigarettes and coffee, man. That's the combination."--Iggy Pop This film is better than many reviewers claim. It is a film that will appeal to anyone who has ever experienced the aesthetic pleasure of having a conversation (no matter how inane) over coffee and cigarettes, or to anyone who has ever encountered the social awkwardness of enjoying a smoke amidst the anti-smoking hysteria and worldwide public smoking bans. In 2004 Jim Jarmusch (Stranger Than Paradise; Down by Law) released Coffee and Cigarettes, a collection of short vignettes, several of which had originally aired on Saturday Night Live in the late 80s and early 90s. Shot in black and white, the eleven short vignettes are linked thematically by characters drinking coffee and smoking cigarettes. While some segments are stonger and wittier than others (Cousins, Somewhere in California, Delirium), and while many of the conversations are inane (much like life itself), the cumulative point of Jarmusch's film always remains clear: having a conversation over coffee and cigarettes is one of the most pleasurable experiences in life. When combined, caffeine and nicotine have the power to reveal the sublime humanity in the dreariness of human existence, a point the anti-smoking movement will never understand. The eleven segments of Coffee and Cigarettes include: 1. Strange to Meet You, which features Roberto Benigni and Steven Wright; 2. Twins, which stars Joie Lee and Cinqué Lee as twins, and Steve Buscemi as a waiter who explains his theory of Elvis Presley's evil twin; 3. Somewhere in California, which features musicians Iggy Pop and Tom Waits, who having quit smoking, believe they are allowed just one more cigarette ("The beauty of quitting is, now that I've quit, I can have one, 'cause I've quit"); 4. Those Things'll Kill Ya, which features Joseph Rigano and Vinny Vella, who discuss the health dangers of smoking; 5. Renée, which stars Renée French drinking coffee while reading a gun magazine; 6. No Problem, which features Alex Descas and Isaach De Bankolé as friends who meet and talk over some coffee and cigarettes; 7. Cousins, which stars Cate Blanchett plays both herself and her cousin Shelly, who meet for coffee in a hotel; 8. Jack Shows Meg His Tesla Coil, which features Jack and Meg White of The White Stripes having coffee and cigarettes; 9. Cousins stars British actors Alfred Molina and Steve Coogan, who discuss their careers over tea; 10. Delirium, which features GZA and RZA of the Wu-Tang Clan, who drink caffeine-free herbal tea ("Crisp and clean, no caffeine") as their waiter, played by Bill "Groundhog-Day, Ghostbustin'-ass" Murray, who drinks coffee straight from the pot and suffers from a smoker's hack; and 11. Champagne, which stars William Rice and Taylor Mead who converse during a coffee break. G. Merritt

If you can only laugh at slap-stick comedic films, you will not like this very much. If you enjoy dry comedic films where the jokes come from the characters' personalities, facial features, and witty dialogues, then you will enjoy most, if not all, the sketches of this film. The comedy comes from what I mentioned before, but it's a better experience watching this movie if you know almost every actor involved. Don't get me wrong, even if you didn't know any actor in the sketches, you would still find this enjoyable due to the excellent interactions between the characters. As the title I gave for this review suggests, this film is a simple observation of how incredibly hilarious ordinary conversation can be. Irony and awkwardness are prominent themes throughout each of the sketches, and you will want to find out how exactly each conversation ends. None of the sketches run too long because even the few minutes where the characters' are seemingly staring into space trying to figure out what to talk to each other about is completely essential to establish the realism of the situation. If you find ordinary conversation amusing especially when the talkers are so involved in the conversation, then you will enjoy the sketches in this film. There are no explosions, nudity, scary moments, or even color, just great writing and characterization.

This film consists of several short segments, consisting of two main characters sitting at a table, drinking coffee (tea, in two segments) and most of them smoking cigarettes. There are few connections between the conversations from one segment to the others, aside from pointing-out that cigarettes and coffee aren't a good lunch, a couple of mentions of inventor Nicolas Tesla and coffee popsicles. I will admit that this film isn't for everyone and also that I had a hard time writing this review. But, this film is entertaining for people willing to have an open mind about films that go outside the form most movies take. There are some very funny parts in "Coffee and Cigarettes" which had me laughing out loud and other parts where I could feel the discomfort of one character in their segment where the conversation seemed to touch a raw nerve in their companion or themselves. That uncomfortable moment occurs in many real life conversations where we don't know what to say next, if anything, to avoid hurting the other person's feelings. This film has no definite beginning or ending and there is little in each segment to connect it with the others beyond the coffee (or tea) and cigarettes they are consuming. Nevertheless, I liked the film and I recommend it to people who like to watch films that go outside the norm.

Average Rating:

Now here is a movie that's practically perfect for DVD. Shot over many years with eccentric actors, Jim Jarmusch's collection of black-and-white vignettes is as uneven as a collection of music videos (without songs)...

I really don't know how so many people love this film. I just watched it and it is by far Almodovar's worst film. My biggest problem with the film is that he does not build the characters AT ALL! Why did Helena do what she did? Was she guilty or bored? I gues I can make my own back story to fill in the HUGE gaps in the film but in this one he is asking a lot. Does not stand up to Talk to Her, High Heels, Women on the Verge..., or any of his other great films.

i haven't watched the film yet but it seems to be in great shape -- thank you!

British crime writer Ruth Rendell gets credit for the original story of this film. But it's hard to picture the kind of darkly original psychological study that director Pedro Almodovar started with because his stamp is all over this film - that unmistakable mix of melodrama, steamy scenes of passion, and quirky comedy. Beefy Javier Bardem comes on strong here as the Russell Crowe of Spanish cinema, graduating from smoothly suited cop to sweaty, muscular disabled basketball player in a wheelchair. Meanwhile, his apparent nemesis is a young man who has served time for the shooting that crippled him and is now out of prison and settling old scores, which involves romancing two strategically selected married women. (Don't want to give too much away here.) This being an Almodovar film, the young man is handsome and sweetly charming. Even his schemes, when we learn them, are more poignant than ill-willed. This is Almodovar's spin on film noir. Not as brilliant as "Talk to Her" and "All About My Mother," but definitely worth a watch.

What's special about Almodovar films is that he is able to explore the naked-ness of humanity creating this "Othello"-esque scenario wherein people are exposed as people -- human enough to feel, be hurt and heal. Almodovar starts off with a simplistic cliché scenario, which would slowly unravel to become a complex story of human relationships taking risks on impulsive choices. To condense an Almodovar plot would be futile. It isn't because I'm lazy but because if one would attempt to do so, it would be a risk in making the film gratuitous and simplified when it isn't. You need to look at every part of the shot to see the details he is giving to the piece. Look at the sexual scenes; the balance he achieves: it's not so strong, but not soft either. It's subtle. His way of directing the actors is amazing. He writes the movie, and knows it more than anyone, so you know he is there to tell the cast what to do, and help them obtain their amazing performances. It's a visual style with life of its own. I said it. There's cruelty and honesty at the same time. There's passion. There's betrayal, lies, sex. You see it in the characters, in their words. For example- When David arrives home and sees his wife Elena in bed, and starts to touch her; she doesn't like it. "What's the matter?" he asks. "It hurts", Elena answers. "Why?" he says. And with a face that involves everything I'm talking about, she looks at him: "Because I've been having sex all night" I didn't really have a specific favorite scene because each act builds up on each other. The present scene would portray the consequence of the previous scene. This is a film of cause and effect. Unfortunately, the choices of the characters tend to lean towards the romantic but when they finally decide to be rational, the result would tend to lead to more complications. Complications that in the end allows each character to collide with one another. What Almodovar came to do was to simply entertain his audience. And he does. He fills time with entertaining plot twists, interesting character developments and enough metaphors to keep people like I glued to the screen.

By now all movie buffs have been exposed to the singular genius of Spanish director Pedro Almodovar and the numerous solid films he has placed before his admiring public. Though generally recognized as the maestro of zany, over the edge, ludicrous comedies, his later works have included such tender and truly gripping films as 'Talk to Her' and 'All About My Mother' and it is into this vein that LIVE FLESH falls. The story is just as surreal as any he has filmed and certainly the quality of the filming, direction and acting is on a par with the best of his work, but LIVE FLESH deals with some fairly grim issues that in the hands of other directors might have become either ruinous parodies of the old films from the 1940s or as bloody boring and tired retreads. Herein lies Almodovar's magic. Beginning in 1970 Franco's Madrid, a prostitute (Penelope Cruz) goes into labor and with the aid of what appears to be a transvestite fellow hooker gives birth to a son Victor (later played by Liberto Rabal) - on a bus! Flash forward to the 1990s and Victor is caught in a drug deal by two policemen David (Javier Bardem) and Sancho (Jose Sancho). In the ruckus David is shot in the spine resulting in paraplegia. Victor is imprisoned, David becomes a national hero as a paraplegic basketball player married to Clara who runs an orphanage and though she loves David, her sexual needs are only minimally met by David. Sancho has become an alcoholic macho cop. When Victor is released form prison he pledges revenge on David and Sancho, falls under the influence of Clara from whom he learns his role as a sexual male and begins an affair with her, and when eventually David discovers Clara's 'betrayal' he is able to forgive for the sake of his love for his wife's plight at living with a paraplegic. Victor progresses toward being the decent human being capable of reform and the film closes in the circular manner of most of Almodovar's films: Clara is giving birth to Victor's son 'in transit' in 1996! The actual story is, of course, much more convoluted and tightly profound than this too brief summary, but you must see the process by watching the film to garner all the beauty that is Almodovar's gift for story telling. Every member of the cast is superb and the action moves at such a fast pace, with just the right amount of sensual sexual encounters to keep in line with Almodovar's style, that this film seems very short. The vivid color palette and the completely appropriate musical score are also trademarks of this gifted director. Highly recommended! Grady Harp, March 05

Although not a great film by any stretch of the imagination, this remake does have its strong points. Namely, the charisma of its two stars: Denzel Washington and John Travolta. Denzel is always good and immensely watchable. Travolta is perhaps at his most disgusting best. What surprised me most was the relationship between these two characters. Travolta's bad guy seems almost infatuated with Denzel's character, adding that extra unnerving edge as they go about trying to outwit each other. For action fans, there are several edge-of-your-seat scenes that will keep you watching. The one major drawback for me in this movie was its incessant use of obscenities. I'm not sure what the director and writer were trying to prove by including so much foul language; for me it was a big distraction. Instead of staying strictly involved in the story, I found myself anticipating when the next character was going to mouth a four-letter word. Unfortunately, one never has to wait very long. Remakes are infamous for not being as good as the original and this one, sadly, is no exception. Still worth a view, however, for the performances of Washington and Travolta.

This movie was terrible. I'll admit, I was psyched when I saw the previews for it. I never went to see it though and just Netflixed it tonight to my TV. SEMI-SPOILERS BELOW: It was just so predictable and terrible. It wasn't even done in a fantastic form. It was just 'ah man hijacks train, boredom, travolta says mother f*ker, no no don't, and this goes on for about an hour and 15 minutes of this movie. There was little intricate plot to this movie. It got very boring and I am usually a guy who appreciates that but it wasn't even entertaining to me. Travolta was terrible and all he did was curse. I don't care about cursing but that's ALL he did. Denzel was lame in this. The ending was even worse... O wow he shot him in the chest, Travolta says his lame last line and dies. The end... O but he got the half gallon of milk awwwe that should make up for wasting my night on this. I gave it two stars... Idk why it even deserves that but whatever. Don't waste your money on it... at least rent it... You'll forever regret buying it.

The remake of Pelham 123 with Travolta, Washington, etc., was watchable and kept us in suspense, but in no way does it come close to the original from 1974. Did the directors do their homework on the NYC subway system? Anyone who lives in NYC and has taken the subway would know that the #6 line DOES NOT and CANNOT run all the way to Coney Island. Otherwise, the main actors did a great job.

Let me preface my remarks by saying I've never seen the Matthau/Shaw version of this film, so I'm making no commentary or comparison to that one. That said, I thought this was a gritty, evenly-paced and suspenseful story that admittedly breaks down in a few spots, but is held together by some admirable work by the star actors. Travolta and Washington were in fine form, and John Turturro did a nice job as well. I wasn't particularly impressed by Gandolfini or Guzman, but their roles were decidedly secondary and didn't really detract from the story. I won't get into the plot since others have done enough of that and I don't want to reveal any spoilers. However, I will say that the storyline was a bit cliche, there were some credulity-straining time lapses given the very tight timeline being depicted. Lastly, the wrap-up was a bit anti-climactic (and too tidy), but I loved Travolta's parting line. Overall, I thought the cut-scenes and use of accelerated camera moves added to the tense feel of the story, and created a very entertaining effect. Maybe not everyone will like this one, especially those who thought the older version of this movie was great, but for my own part I thought it was definitely worth the two hours.

The direction was very astute, and John Travolta is up there with the best in Cinema. I was very pleased with the orginal and i truly think that this re-make can stand the test of time.

My grandson loves the Yankees and was thrilled when they won the series this year! This BD present was his "best of all", as he said! It came in time for his BD and he was so excited! He has watched it several times! I am so excited to have chosen the perfect gift! Thank you.

Video was purchased for a gift for my baseball crazy son-in-law. It arrived promptly and I think it was a great value. I wouldn't hesitate to order from Amazon again.

MLB did a good job compiling important events and interviews to record the Yankee 2009 run. It is something to keep (unless you are a Yankee enemy). However, I wish it has more footage of the ALDS and ALCS. I have ordered the past world series video such as Boston and Whitesox years. But they all share the same shortcoming. Often there are as critical moments in ALDS/ALCS than those in world series. Yankee vs. Angel games in 2008 for example was as memorable as any world series. But there isn't any coverage. This 2009 video has the same problem.

I purchase this video for my son for Christmas. He was very happy to receive it. I'm not sure if he's watched it yet. But being a real Yankee fan, I'm sure there can't be anything wrong with it.

This is a well made, awe-inspiring video to watch again and again to get your Yankee fix. Great details and emotional scenes. You will relive the season with pride. Bought it for a friend, and after seeing it, had to get one for ourselves.

My husband has an X-large head. hehe. I always have to find him fitted hats in size XL, which sometimes are not in stock in stores. This is a nice high-quality hat, the same ones (brand) they sell for more $ at those hat stores called Lids. My husband loves it. I'll probably be back for more in other colors.

A-Rod: The Many Lives of Alex Rodriguez A-Rod: The Many Lives of Alex Rodriguez

SELENA ROBERTS DOES A NICE JOB TELLING US THE LIFE AND CAREER OF A-ROD. EVEN AS A BOY, ALEX WAS SPOILED AND PAMPERED. HIS STORY IS NOT MUCH DIFFERENT FROM MOST BIG EGO AND SELF ABSORBED PEOPLE. A-ROD HAS ALOT OF TALENT AND IS A GREAT PLAYER, BUT HE ALSO CHEATED AND HIS RECORDS WILL BE TAINTED FOREVER. HE IS JUST AS INSECURE AS EVERYONE ELSE ONLY HE HAS A TON OF MONEY WHICH HE GOT FROM STUPID EGO TRIP OWNERS LIKE HICKS AND STEINBRENNER. THE WORLD HAS SO MANY HUNGER, HOMELESS, POVERTY AND UNEMPLOYMENT PROBLEMS, TO PAY A-JERK $27 MILLION A YEAR IS A CRIME ITSELF. A-HOLE IS JUST A FOOL WHO NEEDS PEOPLE AROUND HIM TO TELL HIM HOW GREAT HE IS. HE BLAMES EVERYONE ELSE FOR HIS PROBLEMS EXCEPT THE SOURCE. HIS EX WIFE TOLERATED ENOUGH OF HIS STRIPPERS, NIGHT LIFE AND SELF CENTEREDNESS. AFTER HIS DIVORCE HE ENDED UP WITH A REAL PRIZE IN 50 YEAR OLD HOE MADONNA. THERE IS SOME GOOD IN A-ROD JUST NOT ENOUGH. THE BOOK ITSELF IS NEGATIVE TOWARDS HIM BUT HE CAUSED MOST OF IT HIMSELF. I APPLAUD SELENA ROBERTS FOR HAVING THE GUTS TO TELL US ABOUT ONE EXAMPLE OF WHAT ATHLETES ARE LIKE TODAY. GREEDY, SELF ABSORBED AND IN ALOT OF CASES A-HOLES LIKE A-ROD. I DO RECOMMEND THIS BOOK FOR ALL BASEBALL FANS.

Got the book when I wanted it. Everything was perfect and in good shape

All this book does is lead Yankee Haters, Alex Rodriguez haters into even more ignorance, this book is the most (for lack of a better word) retarded novel i have ever sat my eyes upon. Saleena Roberts is mentally disabled, kicked out of Alex Rodriguez's apartment, arrested by the police for trespassing in A-Rod's house, making up so much lies about A-Rod using steroids IN HIGH SCHOOL, This book only contributes to people being even more ignorant about Alex Rodriguez and his steroid use, Saleena is the Hilary Clinton of sports. Before you read this book i would recommend you look at the Peter Gammons & Alex Rodriguez interview from ESPN, after you watch that then you can read the other story, but don't read this book, ignore all the Pro-Rodriguez interviews and fans and start bashing Alex Rodriguez.

An eye opening account about A-rod. I was not surprised after I read this. I don't know that I would have done anything differently under the pressures that he had.

A timely and relevant book, whose sales figures would have benefited from an even more expansive title incorporating the by-line "PED's in Baseball". This book is a tour de force of the steroid culture whose ramifications are permeating baseball to this day. Using the life of Alex Rodriguez as the catalyst, not merely as the central character, the author explores the role of the office of the MLB Commissioner, club management, Scott Boras, the Players Association, BALCO and a netherworld of Dominican pseudo pharmaceutical fitness trainers in cultivating a sports mentality in which the rampant use of steroids is not only widely acknowledged and encouraged but supported by a code of silence in which non-using players, though disgusted, would never rat on a fellow player. The reader is taken on a journey behind the scenes of the club house, the training yards, the glitz of the celebrity scene and into the homes of the various stars. The story of the anonymous drug testing of 2003 is discussed in full, together with the reaction of the various major parties to establishing a bona fide drug testing program within MLB. Heavily supported by interview and drawing on numerous other books exploring the baseball drug phenomenon, the author provides a sense of authenticity supporting claims made, in what would otherwise be a clear route towards defamation litigation owing to the text's base grit in detail. As the names of the "List" of positive testers is slowly leaked in the papers, supported by the findings of the Mitchell Report, this book clearly explains the mentality of those who made themselves vulnerable to the "PED's in baseball" net. A contemporary book exploring a still unfolding drama. Readers are recommended to download the audio version of this text too. Read with immense color, its 7 hours provide a wonderful way to hear this story told. With nil repetition or filler, this book is simply a legitimate contribution to baseball history, written very much in the moment.

Out of the Ballpark Out of the Ballpark

Reviews

A delightful book by Yankee superstar Alex Rodriguez. Who does not know the legend call AROD? Bright illustrations by Frank Morrison tell the story. What mother of a baseball enthusiast does not know the sound of a tennis ball bouncing against the indoor wall of the house? The story is good--our beloved Alex can write as well as play ball! It's inspirational, but not overly done--Alex touts sustainable effort to achieve goals. Post-story includes four pages of personal notes and a timeline of photographs. A must-have for young fans, but a genuinely good baseball story, even without knowing who the main character is.

The child I bought this for loved it ! Great pictures and an easy reader for your children.

After reading Jorge Posada's excellent children's book, "Play Ball!" at least a dozen times at my four-year-old son's request, I was excited to see "Out of the Ballpark" by Alex Rodriguez, one of the great players of our time. Although other reviewers seem to love the book, my son can barely tolerate it and will pick any other baseball book before this one. He doesn't light up like he does with Posada's book, or any of his baseball books, for that matter. His favorites are the amazing Casey At the Bat: A Ballad of the Republic Sung in the Year 1888 (Caldecott Honor Book), the entertaining Casey Back at Bat, the beautifully illustrated Home Run: The Story of Babe Ruth and a book that features his favorite player, Dear Ichiro. The story felt like it was trying too hard to me and never really developed the great rhythm good children's book authors seem to find. Take note: this is a fictional story loosely based on events in A-Rod's life...a fact that isn't revealed until you've completed the story. I probably wouldn't have purchased the book had I known it was fiction. When it comes to children's books, Posada hit a homerun. A-Rod, well, I'll give him a bloop single...and I'm giving him that for picking a decent illustrator!

I find this a great book with some wonderful surpises inside for young boys and girls who are just getting into baseball. They can learn what it means to be part of team and it shows respect to one another. My grandson had a great time with it.

Nicely written; very simply presented with good illustrations. Children need to know the importance of long term goals and "practice makes perfect"...This story presents those values.
