HaremReviewsI love anything by Sarah Brightman. She is talented, sophisticated, classy but still shows her vixen side. Definitely has her own style. Great soundtrack. Does Sarah Brightman realize that the track, "Journey Home" sounds just like the Jeopardy theme song? Listen at a minute and a half in... when she starts to hum a tune. Yeah, that's Jeopardy. :) i bought this cd the on june 10 2003 and listened to it for a year straight i lstened to it everyday before work after work and sometimes during work at a convenience store i worked overnights i got lots of compliments from cutomer swho had never heard of Sarah Brightman before it is still one of my favorites of hers. I bought this four years ago when it was first released and didn't like it. I only listened to it once back then - I think I was expecting another Eden or La Luna. I put this cd in my player last month and fell in love with it. This is my favorite Sarah Brightman cd. I actually love it more than Eden and La Luna (both were extremely good). I own all of her cds, but this one is her best. My favorite tracks are 2, 4, 5, 8, 9, 10, 13 and 14. Sarah's voice is so beautiful - she's extremely talented. I'm going to add the DVD to my wish list. A voice so pure, effortless and flawless. What a gift - this voice. Brightman turns every song into a seductive love song. She could gargle mouthwash and seduce me. Definitely a CD for cosmopolitan lovers. Average Rating:![]() |

Harem (CD & DVD)ReviewsI love this CD by Sarah Brightman. I also like her new one - Symphony. The best song is Harem on this CD. It's very moving. DVD features this song in 2 different ways. It's not a DVD of her concert, just mostly 1 song, and how they were making it. I wish you could buy a DVD of her concert based on this CD. Sarah Brightman has developed her talent for singing in a grand way. Her video performance is equally great. She will never probably have any idea how many nights she has sung me to sleep ;). I look for a performance and a live concert to come near me soon. I would like to see her, however, embrace the more artistic and less of the skimpy clothing side. There is a delicate line between flash, art, and trash, and some footage and photos of her cross the line with me. Nude and semi-nude do not mix with song and expression. Sorry, dear, my beloved Sarah, but I am only in this for your singing talent, not to be made to long for your bod in my arms. Keep it cleaner. Skimpy or revealing clothing, photos, and videos does not enhance your talent. This is by far my favorite Sarah Brightman Cd. Although it is probably her most pop oriented cd, it totally rocks! Most of the songs have a Middle Eastern Edge to them and are awesome to blast in the car! Make sure to try to get the version with either the bonus Dvd or the french tracks! FIVE STARS! I agree with "music fan" about this CD. Eden is a good album, and she's a good artist. But either this album was poorly produced or something, because this does not show her best. I wouldn't classify this as world music at all, because the instruments aren't used and it's more classical pop; if that's a genre. It seemed rambly to me with many of the songs sounding similar and lacking originality. I love her, she's unique in her genre. But she really shines as a classicist, with Classics, her work by Andrew Lloyd Webber (who she married) and operatic albums. This is what she's best at, so her collaborations on Eden and La Luna, which are classical in nature but still allowed her to branch out musically, turned out good. I have a lot of her albums, but I wouldn't buy this one. It's more something to listen to once. A few of the songs are good, the album isn't terrible, but it's not very good. This is a very good CD/DVD set, beautiful music and performance.I enjoyed it. Average Rating:![]() |

Woman in the Window [VHS]ReviewsI think this is one of the best movies not talked about. Family film which puts thriller back where it belongs. The ending, the ending so worth the wait! I have shown this movie to most of my friends and it's contagious. I have ordered more movies of this era in hopes of getting the same thrill. I hope everybody puts this gem in their collection!!! ** Some SPOILERS contained in this review which I feel are unavoidable ** It's interesting in retrospect that Fritz Lang, the director more than any other associated with the shadowy and deterministic world of film noir started off his noir period with this (relatively) sunny, funny, and even playful film that seems to poke fun at the whole criminal-detective genre all the while offering a riveting example of it. I suspect that most viewers won't guess the "twist" ending on their first viewings, but careful rewatches show it to be fairly logical and not the throw-you-for-a-loop that some less-kind viewers have seen it as. Professor of Psychology Richard Wanley (Edward G. Robinson) is seen giving a lecture on the psychology of murder, after which he sees his wife and kids off for their weekend in the country, and then goes to meet a couple of old friends at his club, just outside of which he admires a mysterious portrait painting of a beautiful young woman. One of his friends is a District Attorney (Raymond Massey) and the talk amongst the group inevitably turns to such subjects as crime, their growing infirmities as they move through middle age, the dangers of too much alcohol, the desires of infirm flesh and minds. Wanley retires to a favorite chair to read, desiring to be reminded when it is 10:30. At the appointed hour, the Professor leaves the club, pausing once more to admire the mysterious portrait - but this time encountering the model who posed for it, the equally beautiful Alice Reed (Joan Bennett). Having had a little too much, the Professor unwisely accompanies Miss Reed to her apartment to look at more paintings - but they are unfortunately surprised by her lover, "Frank", a fight ensues, and Frank is dead with scissors in the back. The calm and rational Professor must now think through the best way for the two of them to beat the rap, disguise the crime, dispose of the body....but of course his friend the District Attorney is involved, as is blackmailer Heidt (Dan Duryea). Soon it appears there may be more blood on Wanley's hands, and can he really trust Miss Reed, who he has only known for hours? It all seems rather absurd...and perhaps it is. The suspense keeps building - at every moment the Professor stays calm, though Miss Reed gets more and more upset, but at every moment the noose seems to get closer - and Wanley himself helps to tighten it as he keeps making strange, knowing comments in front of DA and police. Yet he appears too calm, and everything seems just a little too by the book, so it might strike us as a little too obvious when he finally chooses to take just a bit too much of his powerful heart medicine, and we see him slumped over in his chair, apparently....dreaming. He gets up, exits the club, can't help but notice the painting, but this time when a beautiful model walks up to him, he knows better than to stop and get involved in what might be just a moment's conversation...or an adventure ending in the gallows! What's terrific here most of all is the playing around with conventions both of the kinds of characters we associate with these films - Massey's DA in particular seems like he's in on the whole `joke' at various points, and the subject that Robinson teaches, psychology, plays into both his own psychology as he coolly tries to find a way out of the mess - and that of the filmmakers and viewers, as we cast our critical gazes on the story and ultimately might decide that it's all a little too pat. Of course it is, and the film acknowledges this more than once as Robinson seems almost eager to give himself away - but it always just gets to the brink of self-parody, never quite crossing it; if this is among the most self-conscious of films noir, it's also one of the most fun to re-watch and re-analyze, even after one knows the gimmick. Superbly photographed, very much a "Hollywood-New York" film, done all on sets, but in this case the artificial reality of it all affords the dream-logic of the film a perfect setting. It's nice to see Robinson play someone largely competent, a nice guy caught up by circumstance; Bennett, too, is more a "normal" character than usual. Duryea's usual greasiness and Massey's sardonic humor round things out nicely; certainly up to the director's usual standards. Followed the next year by Lang's SCARLET STREET with the same three principal cast members (Bennett, Robinson, Duryea) and director of photography (Milton Krasner). The solid KINO DVD release looks great, but offers nothing in the way of extras. The war years saw Hollywood's leading men unavailable - Clark Gable, James Stewart, and many others, were otherwise occupied. At this point, some of the better character actors stepped up to starring roles they might not otherwise have gotten. The darkness of the war years also did a bit to loosen the grip of the production code by allowing darker plots than would otherwise pass inspection, but the evildoers still had to be punished in the end. This began the trend of "film noir" - related to their predecessors, the precodes, by examining the seedy side of life, but emphasizing the duality of man's nature rather than the sexual angles and the evolving roles of women and men in society as the films of the early 30's tended to do. "The Woman in the Window" is a great film noir starring the great Edward G. Robinson as a mild mannered New York City professor. He packs his wife and kids off to the country at the beginning of the summer as was the custom back before the days of air conditioning, and he begins his three month bachelorhood by joining two friends at his private club, one of which is D.A. Frank Lalor (Raymond Massey). Before entering his club, though, he appreciates a painting of a beautiful woman, "the woman in the window". His two friends see him staring, kid him about it, and they proceed to have a conversation in which the D.A. talks about how many cases he sees in which a small wrong step by an ordinarily law-abiding citizen leads to major crime. The rest of the film is basically a demonstration of what the D.A. spoke about when you mix Robinson's mild professor with the actual flirtatious woman in the window (Joan Bennett), add a case of homicide in self-defense under seemingly scandalous circumstances where there is no way to prove self-defense, and finally introduce a seedy blackmailing P.I. (Dan Duryea) into the mix. The film has many twists and turns and you can feel your guts wrenching along with Robinson's as he watches the police come closer and closer to his door with every update he gets from his friend the D.A. who thinks he is just sharing an interesting case with a professor of criminology. The end then takes a sharp turn and totally surprises you. This film was so good that Fritz Lang followed it up the following year with an even better effort - Scarlet Street - with Robinson, Duryea, and Bennett playing similar parts as they did in this film. There's even a painting as a central plot point in this second film as well. The video and audio are terrific quality in this film. My only complaint is the same one I have with most MGM classic releases - absolutely no extras whatsoever. All you have are scene selections and alternate language selections. Highly recommended anyways, but be sure you follow it up by watching "Scarlet Street". What this proves is that you don't need a budget of millions of dollars, fantastic special effects, multi-million dollar stars, or even color to make an excellent movie. This is classic film noir, with wonderful acting and lots of suspense. What I liked about it: 1) I thought the acting was excellent, with good performance from everyone. 2) It doesn't hurt that Joan Bennett was a babe. She was definitely sultry and that see through negligee didn't hurt either. I loved the period dresses, and her deep voice was wonderful. Correct me if I'm wrong but you don't hear those kind of voices in movies anymore. Anyway, rule #1, always make sure you have a babe in your movie. 3) I thought the plot was great, it was slow going at the very beginning but we were drawn on more and more and deeper into the plot as the movie progressed. I'm sure that a lot of CSI fans cringed as the all those mistakes were made and I'm sure that they knew that even in 1945! 4) You just can't beat the classic film noir atmosphere. I'm even thinking some modern producer should try and re-create a new movie like that. Unlike 1960's or 1970's movies, these 1940's movies are just retro enough to be hip. 5) Loved all the extra bits, the old cars, the natty police uniforms, buildings, the acting, even the way people wore suits with ties at home! Watching this movie is just like going back in a time machine for 60 years. If you are any kind of movie buff and haven't yet experienced film noir, you should try this movie. Even better than some of the so called classics - highly recommended. This began as a rental for me. The film was an extraordinary surprise for me. The story itself took me to an unexpected place, but the some aspects within the story line I found amazing and educational for me. The forensics explained by the police, for instance. I did not think that science was that advanced for that time period. It was just as fascinating to listen to as any CSI episode. Don't watch it with the eyes of the 21st century. Allow yourself to go back and walk with Robinson through his situation. I remember Bennett only from "Dark Shadows" so her performance was a treat. Average Rating:![]() |

Fritz Lang did his best work in Hollywood throughout the 1940s, and The Woman in the Window ranks among his best films from that period. Equally adept at crafting first-rate Westerns and melodramatic thrillers, Lang returned to the latter category for The Woman in the Window, a deliciously devious follow-up to 1944's Ministry of Fear and a near-perfect companion piece to Lang's 1945 follow-up, Scarlet Street... |

Dim Sum FuneralReviewsThis is the worst film I have ever seen made by and about Chinese Americans. It may be of interest to people of mixed Asian ancestry since most of the cast is of mixed race. Seeing this on the heels of "Okuribito" (Departures) was a study in contrasts. Both involved coping with death, but the similarities ended there. While "Okuribito" was well-written, acted, and filmed with an involving story and likable characters, "Dim Sum Funeral" was a complete turn-off. A controlling first-generation Chinese-American woman died and requested that her dysfunctional, self-absorbed children give her a traditional Chinese funeral. They were so Americanized it took the help of their Jewish nanny/ mother's-assistant to fill them in on protocol. The story contained so many twists and complications in the characters' lives that it appeared to be a formulaic exercise in seeing how many problems and how much diversity could be crammed into a 1 1/2 hour film. Ordinary Asian Americans didn't bring enough to the table, so how about making one sibling an illegitimate dope-smoking surly lesbian who wanted a baby, another an over-eating single mother, another the model daughter who recently lost her son, and another a philandering, self-loathing, rich cosmetic surgeon married to a beauty queen? At least Chang Tseng's character provided some relief by being pleasantly funny in a sea of mean-spiritedness. Perhaps because his character wasn't part of the family, he did not contract their self-centered angst. Apparently the writers thought selfishness was a virtue. A Buddhist monk experienced a spiritual "epiphany" from his conversations with the rebellious lesbian couple. And what was his enlightenment? He learned that it is better to live for oneself instead of to please other people. Yes, folks, narcissism lies within the veil of Nirvana. "Okuribito" showed how a film can do a lot with a little. "Dim Sum Funeral" showed that a film can do little with far too much. This was an enjoyable film that examined the dynamics of a varied group of family members dealing with the death of a loved one. Sadly though, I was hoping for something more along the lines of "Like Water for Chocolate" or "Chocolate" or "Eat Drink Man Woman". I wanted to see Chinese culture as experienced around the dining table. Still, all in all, I'm not sorry about this purchase. I rented this thinking it would be an interesting subject on American-Chinese tradition here in the U.S. But I was wrong, it was a total disappointment. The story and its sub-plots are too contrived. The script is very formulaic; even adding a twist at the ending was typical and intentional - just so for audiences who likes a twist in their movies. Any viewer wouldn't get involved watching this film. Basically this is about a group Chinese-American siblings who has hang-ups with themselves and among each others. Set in the affluent neighborhood of San Francisco, it portrays an embarrassingly rich family by showing the amenities of the matriarch's sprawling extravagant house. Tennis, a dip in the pool, jacuzzi anyone? Jeez! I wouldn't recommend this movie to anyone. Three daughters and one son, from a family with strained relations, return home for their mother's funeral. You can guess what happens by the end. This took from "Kingdom Come," "The Joy Luck Club," and "Soul Food." There may be some "Tortilla Soup" in here as well. Still, I love seeing actors of color getting jobs and making that money. I do think many will relate to the family tensions here. For decades, I've thought Russell Wong was a major hottie. Lately, his films have been very poor, so I was very happy to see him in a decent film. Bai Ling is in this too, and I just love that Asian Angelina Jolie. Unfortunately, I couldn't suspend my disbelief for one character. The eldest daughter was supposed to have two Chinese parents, yet she had green eyes and light skin. Why not wear color contacts or get an actress who looks like she could be a part of this family? In many a film, interracial love is treated only or gay love is treated only. This film showed lesbian love and interracial love in the same house. In many a house of color, there may be more than one child who doesn't have a same-race-opposite-sex partner. Many adults of color have lots of romantic options and this film illustrates that. Average Rating:![]() |

Adrian Peterson Jersey: Reebok Purple Replica #28 Minnesota Vikings JerseyReviewsI bought this as a Christmas gift for my grandson in Portland OR.,and he just loved it. I guess that part of his Christams gift was a hit. He is 14 and loves the Vikings because he spent the first half of his life living in MN. I will never use amazon.com again in my life. You are hard to contact and not accurate in your emails. i ended up dealing with the seller and will do so from now on. I am currenty trying to start a fan club labeled I hate amazon.com Make sure you read the description! I was hasty in my purchase. I saw the price and assumed I was getting a steal. But, this is a child's jersey as the description sort of hints at. Anyways, I bought it from JAGZ Sports and they were great. I was able to "upgrade" to an adult jersey by paying the difference after I received the product. They were amazingly helpful and nice about it all. This jersey seemed to be of good quality when I checked it out. A good child's jersey. The jersey was exactly what we expected. The ordering, shipping was fast and easy. It was a Christmas present and it came in less than a week. I give them an A+++++ for service and quality. Average Rating:![]() |

Adrian Peterson Youth Jersey: Reebok Purple Replica #28 Minnesota Vikings JerseyReviewsMy 8 yr old son is a total fan of #28. Odd being that we live in L.A. Anyway, the jersey is of good quality and my son loves to where it! Highly recommend jersey for any person looking to purchase it. I was quite pleased with the quality and reasonable price of the Adrian Peterson football jersey I purchased. Size specifics were right on target. My grandson was ecstatic when he opened his birthday gift. I would recommend this to everyone. This product was of good quality. But, when paying for 2-day delivery it is not acceptable to recive the product in 4 days. It was a present for my grandson's birthday and came the day after, instead of the day before. I will NEVER order from Sports Station again! The delivery charge should be refunded, but I'm sure that will not happen. See you on EBAY. We tried very hard to get this jersy for our son for Christmas. Another vendor told us they had it in stock when we placed the order then notified us it was backordered until 07/08! We cancelled that order and then placed our order with Fans'Edge as we should have in the first place. Fans' Edge told us the backorder date was 1/16 and it was delivered to us exactly on that date! This is at least the third time we have pleasantly surprised by their service. We will always, always, order from them in the future. Average Rating:![]() |
