New York Yankees 60 New York Yankees 60"x80" Raschel Blanket

Reviews

This blanket is better quality than I could've hoped for & it arrived so quickly! I purchased it as a gift for my boyfriend and he LOVES it. It is large enough to be used as a blanket (no toes hanging out from the bottom) but not bulky so it can be packed easily for storage or travel & is sooooo soft. I highly recommend this blanket for your Yankees fan!!!

This blanket is extremely comfortable, it is soft and keeps you warm. It has officially replaced the blanket on my bed and it is only a throw blanket. Very good buy.

Blanket was very soft, and the details of the baseball and logo are beautiful. It was more than I expected and hoped for, which is always a pleasant surprise.

Broadway - The American Musical (PBS Series) Broadway - The American Musical (PBS Series)

Reviews

Here are the tracks that are only availalbe on the single disc sampler version of this set The Best of Broadway - The American Musical (PBS Series) 5 Oklahoma from Oklahoma 8 America from West Side Story 13 Cabaret from Cabaret Of course this five disc version has many many more tracks than the sampler but the above three are only on the sampler. Great set though!

BROADWAY-THE AMERICAN MUSICAL was originally, I believe, a PBS Documentary that can now be purchased on DVD. I haven't seen any of the PBS Show. However, I am a huge fan of Broadway shows and music. I am a firm believer that the best music of America can be sewn across the tapestry of Broadway: here we have Sondheim and Streisand, Armstrong and Astaire, Merman and Martin, Berlin and Buckley. Listen to this music and you'll hear the music of America itself. Okay, enough of my philosophical observations on Broadway. I already know that you love Broadway music. If you don't, you would have stopped reading before the end of the first paragraph. The question you want answered is this: I want a set of great Broadway music that I'll love; some that I know, some that I don't. Is this the set that I should buy? The answer is: yes. This set is brilliant, and well-worth the money you'll spend for it. That amount of money is quite a bit. However, with five CDs, 109 songs, and a twenty-something page booklet that is interesting and well-written, you will feel very satisfied with your purchase. Quick, now, look back to the first paragraph and reread the names listed there. All of those were taken straight from this CD collection, and there are lots more besides those. I still haven't gotten to Jolson, Rivera, Andrews, Orbach, Grey, Lansbury, Mostel, or Channing (plus more). Initially, with this set, you will be overwhelmed with all of the great names and great music. It helps if you listen to it in order (Disc One before Disc 3, etc.), since all of the songs (excluding the first, GIVE MY REGARDS TO BROADWAY, which opens every Broadway set) are in chronological order. Listen to a song, and then read the annotation in the book. It will help you comprehend why this song, and the musical it belongs to, are important in Broadway history. Or, you could just listen for enjoyment. There are tons of beautiful songs here that I will cherish for the rest of my life: "Memory" from Cats, "Hello, Dolly!" from, well, Hello Dolly, "Open a New Window" from Mame, "Try to Remember" from The Fantasticks. Believe it or not, I had never heard any of these songs in their entirety before I purchased this set. Just think of what I was missing! Of course, there are some slight disputable errors. There is nothing here from RAGTIME or ASPECTS OF LOVE. And, a couple of songs are sort of unnessecary (I could have done without "I Enjoy Being a Girl" from FLOWER DRUM SONG, 1958.) However, there are many gems I would have overlooked if I had purchased a less comprehensive set: songs like "Luck Be a Lady" from GUYS AND DOLLS or "The Party's Over" from BELLS ARE RINGING. Overall, this is the set to have. It is a bit pricy, but the money is well worth the many hours of memories and pure enjoyment. Appreciate the magic of Broadway!

Of course there should have been much more. I remember there been a Metropolian Opera series called CAST ALBUMS- 100 YEARS that was put out for a limited time only and had like five volumes. As Peter Filichia noted they left out SHE LOVES ME, BRIGADOON and SWEENEY TODD. Also nothing from PACIFIC OVERTURES, BIG RIVER, CHESS, CRAZY FOR YOU, JEKYLL & HYDE, TITANIC, THE SCARLET PIMPERNEL, FOOTLOOSE- THE MUSICAL, THE FULL MONTY, URINTOWN... But they couldn't have put it all. I would have done without Lee Remick's "Anyone Can Whistle", because the show was a flop. I guess because it was Sondheim's first "serious" show...

The first three discs were only OK. I had forgotten how much better the later Broadway musical recordings were. The last two discs were very good, maybe because I could relate better to the shows or perhaps the productions were better.

Packs into 5 CD's a sampling of Broadway tunes from the 20's thru (almost) today, mostly from original cast recordings. Includes not just well-known hits, but also some lesser-known gems. Sound quality is first rate, booklet is informative too. Have given this as a gift to several friends with rave reviews.

This 2 CD set is a classic at a very fine price. It's an absolute must have for any Sousa enthusiast for many reasons. 1)This is a LARGE double CD that is almost 80 mins long in total and under 20 dollars! 2)As one reviewer has mentioned already, virtually every popular Sousa song is here and then some. You can't easily find good renditions out there of some of these timeless classic marching band songs, but you have them all here on this set played with a high level of intensity displayed with virtuosity, energy and skill by one of the most prestigeous bands in the British military. You may become exhausted after the first CD because of the huge 22 track selection. Then you have another 21 aditional selections available on disc 2. Be careful! You could OD on Sousa here if you're not careful. It's also interesting to note that this is a compilation of Sousa "hits" recorded in 1983, 1984 and 1987 and assuming the fact that various band members may have left the band and been replaced over those years, the quality of the performances are all on the same high level. Sound quality is an A+. This album is a must have CD for any lover of Sousa/Military music. You can't go wrong with this album. It's a must have. Normally, a 2 CD set of this quality would sell for much more than the asking price on Amazon. Buy it and enjoy it!

I purchased these marches to use with my exercise class, and we are totally satisfied. The Royal Marines keep a very consistent and marchable tempo. The wide variety of music offers Sousa melodies that are usually not available. Two CDs for this price is a wonderful value. Bravo to everyone who participated in making these wonderful CDs

I love Sousa marches but this recording while comprehensive and cheep lacks much to be desired in the musical rendension. It lacks the spark and musicality of Sousa.

This is a great CD re-issue of the Band of the Royal Marines School of Music under Graham Hoskins. This band did a three LP series on Sousa marches some years ago that was better than most on this very well covered topic. Sousa march recordings will always come and go, but some like this stand out more than others. For one, there is nothing like the panache of a Royal Marines band. Their sound is a time honored development that gets passed from one generation to the next. Even as the number of RM bands continues to change and downsize, there are now about four bands left in the service, their sound quality continues to be superb. When these recordings were made RM bands were still at their height in the British service and their quality was amazing. Most bands numbered over 60 in this period, and that is why many Americans may be surprsed at the volume of music produced here. This is not one of your small, though excellent regimental bands! Americans tend to think that British military band instrumentation is on the thin side. Not so here! Of course Sousa always sounds best with either the Allentown band or the US Marine band. This CD is evidence of how popular Sousa has always been in the UK, and with RM bands in particular. The selection here on two CDs covers most of the standard Sousa fair, with a few different selections here and there. Unfortunatley there are none of Sousa's fine transcriptions for classical music, or selections from his operettas. This music is always wonderful to have in combination with the marches as it shows how much variety he was capable of in his compositions. For that kind of concert the reader is referred to the very fine collection of Sousa music being done under the Naxos label by the Band of the Royal Artillery. Here you will find a solid collection of Sousa's great marches. Roughly a third of those 136 compositions are contained here. The Royal Marines give a sharpe and clear sound to these works which should certainly inspire. You will also get a very nice idea how RM bands sounded back in the 1980s. Graham Hoskins was a fine director of music, typical of the inhouse genius of the Royal Marines Band Service at that time. He took this band on a USA tour in 1985 with the Arygll & Sutherland Highlanders. Devotees of Sousa should enjoy these spirited versions of the march king's music as performed across the pond.

I bought two audio casettes with these marches back in the 1980's and wore them out. These performances are hard to beat for virtuosity, enthusiasm, and sparkle. The sound quality is outstanding. And there are some marches that are rarely, if at all, available.

I have always enjoyed the Canadian Brass. Thiss albumhas become a particular favorite of mine mostly because of the patriotiuc music and the circus music.

CBrass has for some years now been one of the premiere brass units in the world. Having seen them twice in person, they are true showmen and ambassadors for their country, their music and instruments. Here is a CD that is needed in our time: a collection of patriotic, good ole' American music. This is 4th of July clap your hands firework watching music at its best. In fact, that is exactly what listening to this collection does for me: it takes me to the excellent Greenfield Village at Henry Ford's annual 4th Fireworks Concert. This is good stuff, well done by early CBrass.

The Canadian Brass never fail to please, and this CD really lives up to that reputation. Even with the added orchestra, the songs never get bogged down or unevenly weighted. This was one of the first CB CD's I bought several years ago, and still one of my favourites of theirs.

This cd is a lot of fun to listen to, mainly because of the entirely too impressive trumpet playing. While the quintet may be a bit trumpet heavy, it does not detract from music in this corny, showy style. It is a lot of fun to listen to, and I highly recommend it to those who love brass music.

2000 Official World Series Video - New York Yankees vs. New York Mets [VHS] 2000 Official World Series Video - New York Yankees vs. New York Mets [VHS]

Reviews

There are not many cities with a major league team un each league. New York has the Yanks and Mets, Chicago Cubs and White Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers and Angels (if you consider Anaheim a part of Los Angeles). Well they are called the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Since prior to 1958 New York had two National League teams and the American League Yankees the chance for a subway series is much better than for local World Series in LA and Chicago, As Lawrance (#2 reviewer) Bernabo mentioned in his review, the first subway series was between the Yankees and Giants in 1921. I grew up in the 1859s when subway series were commonplace. From 1947 to 1957 there were incredibly 7 subway series, 6 for Yankees vs Dodgers (1947, 1949, 1952, 1953, 1955 and 1956) and 1 Yankees vs Giants (1951), The Yanks won 6 of the 7 with 1955 being the only time they lost to Brooklyn. But with both the Giants and Dodgers moving to the west coast the subway series was no longer possible until the expansion Mets joined the National League in 1962. The Yanks won pennants in 62, 63, and 64 but the Mets were terrible in those years. In 1969 the Mets won their first National League flag but now the Yanjs wer going through a bad period. So although the Mets got to the World Series in 1969, 1973 and 1986 the Yanjs were not very successful in those years, The Yankees won Anerican League championships in 1962, 1963, 1964, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1981, 1996, 1998 and 1999 but the Mets were not able to win the National League title in those years. So this 2000 World Series was the first subway series since 1956. This one was filled with excitement and drama. Clemens tossing the handle of Piazza's bat being the most memorable. There was good pitching and they were great teams. It was a series to remember. When willthere be another?

First of all I want to say that I am a HUGE baseball fan, but I am not very fond of the Yankees. When I first started following baseball, at age 9, I thought I might like them. But as time passed I started to see what rich, snobby sell-outs they were, and how bad they are for baseball. Yankee fans and ONLY Yankee fans think the 'Yankees rock' or whatever retarted things like that. This World Series was an insult to baseball, and if I remember, the ratings weren't all that good. Because not only was everyone sick of the Yankees by now, but they knew what was going to happen. A agree with one reviewer who said the only great thing about this World Series was watching Roger Clemens throw Mike Piazza's bat back at him. But only because it portrayed Clemens as the stuck-up loser that he is. Do NOT buy this video unless you are a Yankees fan. No, do NOT buy it if you are a Mets fan. Some Yankee fans have said it's good for both Yanks and Mets rooters. Easy for them to say - they won the darn series! Not only that, but announcers always favor the Yankees in their comments, so if you do get it you might want to turn the volume down. But I hope that you WON'T get it.

The series was pretty bad in generall I dont believe I watched the Yankees were hevally favored and they were both in New York the only real exciting event in the series was the game where Roger Clemens through the bat at Piazza.Probally one of the 10 worst world series of all time no Fun at all.

The New York Yankees beat the New York Mets in the first Subway Series since 1956. You see Don Larson & my favorite, Yogi Berra headbutting a umpire from a previous Subway Series. This is a definet for both Yankees & Mets fans.

In the first Subway World Series since 1956, The Yankees show they are N.Y.'s team. Best games 1,2,and 5.

61* (2001) This just my oppinion this is the best baseball movie ever made Barry Pepper (Roger Maris) and Thomas Jane ( Mickey Mantle. Billy Crystal has created a master piece in the likeness of all the characters to the exact detail of the dimensions of the old Yankee stadium ( Monuments,The facade you name he has done it) To make a movie in involing my all time favorite hero Mickey Mantle Nobody pound for pound had more power and hit the ball further ( Maybe excluding Josh Gibson who never saw hit )certainly a wounded hero. Enjoy this movie...

Pretty accurate. I witnessed some of the behavior towards Maris, saw his 50th, and saw Mantle make a ball disappear. Shows who these people were and what they had to deal with without going overboard.

Whether you loved baseball or not, the summer of '61 was dominated by Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris, and Billy Crystal has perfectly captured the 'feel' of that unforgettable, magical season in "61*". When 'M & M' began their assault on Babe Ruth's 'unbreakable' record of 60 home runs in a single season, those who knew and loved the Babe were angered that this 'Holy Grail' was a target, and, as Crystal illustrates, Ruth's friend, Baseball Commissioiner Ford Frick, laid down restrictive rules to help keep Ruth's record intact (the dreaded asterix, if the record wasn't broken in 154 games), making the competition more than simply breaking the record, but a race against the clock, as well. With two brilliant performances by actors Thomas Jane and Barry Pepper (who look astonishingly close to Mantle and Maris), the film transcends the sport, becoming a tale of friendship, of an insane loss of privacy and personal dignity, and of two very different, remarkable men. Mantle is universally loved (and expected to win the race), a veteran Yankee of epic talent and overwhelming charm, whose wild boozing and womanizing is 'sanitized' by an adoring press. Maris, on the other hand, is a quiet, focused professional, a family man whose only vice is cigarettes, and, in only his second year with the Yankees, is considered an outsider and usurper to Mantle's 'glory' (having won the MVP award, the year before). As he has little to say to the press, they make a spectacle of him, in a season-long vendetta that fans the flames of hatred that the city already feels towards him. For Maris, the impact is staggering, added to the pressure of the home run race. Welts appear on his body and he starts losing handfuls of hair, he receives daily hate mail, and even his family is threatened. But Maris' biggest ally is Mantle, who truly likes him, admires his devotion to his family and the game, and realizes his own failing body may not allow him the triumph his fans expect. It is a beautiful story, riveting despite the fact that the outcome is known, before the film even begins. I highly recommend the 'Making of' documentary, as well as the film. Did you know Thomas Jane had never played any baseball, before he made the film? And Crystal's decision to include a cameo by Mantle's tiny grandson, watching the 'grandpa' he'll never know hit a home hun, is sheer magic! "61*" is simply a fabulous film, at a really fabulous price. Even if you don't like baseball, I think you'll love this film!

Could you remain friends when you are competitors and the Press and the public put pressure on you all the time? The relationship of Maris and Mantle moved me to tears: the movie makes you understand everything that goes through their mind. There is no preaching, no important dialogue: just the attitudes and beautiful beautiful baseball. One of my ten best movies of all times One of my ten best historical movies My best baseball movie My best friendship movie

I got this movie for my father. He turned 61 this year and is a huge Bronx Bombers' fan and his favorite player is Roger Maris.

My grandson loves the Yankees and was thrilled when they won the series this year! This BD present was his "best of all", as he said! It came in time for his BD and he was so excited! He has watched it several times! I am so excited to have chosen the perfect gift! Thank you.

Video was purchased for a gift for my baseball crazy son-in-law. It arrived promptly and I think it was a great value. I wouldn't hesitate to order from Amazon again.

MLB did a good job compiling important events and interviews to record the Yankee 2009 run. It is something to keep (unless you are a Yankee enemy). However, I wish it has more footage of the ALDS and ALCS. I have ordered the past world series video such as Boston and Whitesox years. But they all share the same shortcoming. Often there are as critical moments in ALDS/ALCS than those in world series. Yankee vs. Angel games in 2008 for example was as memorable as any world series. But there isn't any coverage. This 2009 video has the same problem.

I purchase this video for my son for Christmas. He was very happy to receive it. I'm not sure if he's watched it yet. But being a real Yankee fan, I'm sure there can't be anything wrong with it.

This is a well made, awe-inspiring video to watch again and again to get your Yankee fix. Great details and emotional scenes. You will relive the season with pride. Bought it for a friend, and after seeing it, had to get one for ourselves.

As a die hard Yankee fan, it is almost inconceivable that everyone does not have this video. It takes you through a wonderful season and through the victory parade. Beautiful quality in the film, brings you right to the field and then on to the street. Hope I will be buying another one after the 2010 season!!!!

I was very excited about this dvd- and when it came in the mail- i watched it right away...the dvd was pretty good..but i was expecting alittle more detailed dvd...it is a quick overview of the season, and then goes into the playoffs...the dvd is made very well- and its very enjoyable to watch. I would recommend it to everyone that wants a good overview of the season and to watch the yankees go for #27.

this disc is wonderfully presented in high definition recapping the year which culminated in the 27th championship title for the New York Yankees. It's in bluray so it has all of what you would expect that sort of disc to have. Watched it a few times. If you are a Yankee fan, and have a bluray player, you should buy it.

I watched the entire bluray last night and I have to say that if you are a true diehard Yankee fan, this bluray is a must-have. This is basically a 1-hour 25-minute film documenting the New York Yankees' 2009 World Series win over the Philadelphia Phillies. Here's how the film breaks down... The first 20 minutes or so documents the Yankees' regular season as they attempt to capture their 27th World Championship. They also have a brief section showing the Philadelphia Phillies and their attempt to defend their World Series crown. But this bluray is really all about the World Series battle between these two great teams. The rest of the film documents every World Series game along with the key moments from each game. Cliff Lee's game 1 gem and Chase Utley's domination over CC Sabathia... Pedro Martinez's return to Yankee Stadium and AJ Burnett's dominance in game 2... The Yankees fighting back from a 3-0 deficit to win game 3... Johnny Damon's at-bat and subsequent double-steal as well as Brad Lidge's meltdown in game 4... Chase Utley once again doing his best Reggie Jackson impersonation in game 5... And finally, Andy Pettitte (who else?) clinching the game 6 winner... If you are a true Yankee fan and you don't like this film, then something is wrong. There is also 30 minutes worth of bonus features that show key moments for the Yankees during their playoff run. A-Rod's game-tying homerun off Joe Nathan during the 9th inning in game 2 of the ALDS... Mark Teixeira's walk-off homerun during the same game... A-Rod's game-tying homerun off Brian Fuentes in the ALCS... A-Rod's homerun off Cole Hamels in game 3 of the World Series... Matsui's 2-run single/double/homerun in the game 6 World Series clincher... It even has the entire final 3 outs of the 9th inning as it was shown on national television. One thing to note about the bonus clips... with the exception of the final 3 outs of the World Series as well as Johnny Damon's at-bat against Brad Lidge (there may be one more that I'm forgetting about), there is NO television commentary in any of the clips. For example, with A-Rod's homerun off Joe Nathan in the ALDS, they show the homerun from multiple camera angles (as they do with most of the other clips), but that's it. There is no television commentary at all. The only thing you hear is the sweet sound of the bat as it makes contact with the baseball and the crowd going nuts. Some people will like this, others will not. I personally didn't have a problem with it although sometimes I do like to hear it when the announcers go crazy. Conclusion... As I mentioned before, if you are a true diehard Yankee fan, go out and buy this now.

This is a great overview of the playoffs and World Series. It includes all the action and excitement interspaced with interviews and comments by the manager and players. The action as filmed by major league baseball is outstanding and the blu-ray is crystal clear, giving you all you the key plays and strategies without the annoying talking heads of the sport shows. The extras are interesting in that they show key plays and events from different camera angles without commentary, except when they replay the last inning of the final game in its entirety. Also it is in widescreen, not the narrow screen that the specs indicate, which is a bonus. Again if you are a baseball or especially a Yankee fan, you will enjoy this blu-ray !

This is a great product. It is a very comfortable necklace that fits nicely and looks great. Can't say for sure wheather the necklace does everything it advertises, but I do seem to feel more energetic and livelier when I wear it.

I got this gift for my brother and it was so hard to find in Texas so amazon was the way for me.

but it looks great. I bought it because of the healing power it's supposed to have but I don't feel much and I've had it for a week. I don't mind though because I wear it pretty much 24/7 and it looks great.

I have a friend who is a Cubs fanatic. He has plenty of souvenirs, but not a necklace like most of the players had on during this years playoffs. Amazon's price was the best, and it arrived quickly. I don't buy the "amazing powers" of Phiten, but it does look cool.I plan to buy another one for a Oakland A's fan. Its a great accessory.

It looked good on the computer but once I received it I was disappointed in the look and quality of the product. It was smaller then I thought and felt it wasn't worth the money.
