The Green Bay Packers are a professional American football team based in Green Bay, Wisconsin. They are currently members of the North Division of the National Football Conference (NFC) in the National Football League (NFL) and are the third-oldest franchise in the NFL.
The Packers are the last vestige of "small town teams" that were once common in the NFL during the 1920s and 1930s. Founded in 1919 by Earl "Curly" Lambeau (thus the name Lambeau Field in which the team presently plays) and George Whitney Calhoun, the Green Bay Packers can trace their lineage to other semi-professional teams in Green Bay dating back to 1896. In 1919 and 1920 the Packers competed as a semi-professional football team against clubs from around Wisconsin and the Midwest. They joined the American Professional Football Association (APFA) in 1921, the forerunner to what is known today as the National Football League (NFL).
The Green Bay Packers have won twelve league championships (more than any other team in the NFL) including nine NFL Championships prior to the Super Bowl era and three Super Bowl victories in 1967 (Super Bowl I), 1968 (Super Bowl II) and 1997 (Super Bowl XXXI). The team has a fierce rivalry with the Chicago Bears, whom they have played in over 170 games. The Packers also share a historic rivalry with the Minnesota Vikings, who currently reside in the NFC North along with the Packers, and the Dallas Cowboys who have historically been known as the Packers largest playoff rivals after the Packers defeated them in the famous Ice Bowl.
The Packers are currently the only non-profit, community-owned major league professional sports team in the United States. Beginning with the 1992 season, the Packers had 13 non-losing seasons in a row (their worst record being 8–8 in 1999), two Super Bowl appearances, and one Super Bowl win (Super Bowl XXXI). The Packers' 13 consecutive non-losing seasons was an active NFL record until the team finally suffered a losing campaign in their 2005 season. They returned to have an 8–8 season in 2006 and a 13–3 regular season in 2007, both under new head coach Mike McCarthy.

NFL Team Gnomes - 11"ReviewsThis gnome is much more detailed in person. I bought it as a gift for my nephew and my adult brothers now want one! We take him with us and sit him on our table when we go out to watch the game and everyone stops and comments about him. For the money, this was a great 'fun' gift for a football fan. I also bought the Green Bay Packer gnome and they both went over very well! This is going to be a Christmas gift to my parents from my son, and it is so cute. Nice size for a smaller garden, theirs is for their cabin. I know my parents will love it, my son does and wants to get one for his room. Well worth it if you cant think of a thing for a gift, and your receiver would get a kick out of it!! This is a great product for any fan. You can set it outside or display it indoors. Gnome arrived as scheduled w/out any damage. It has since travelled as a gift 2 someone else. In hopes of bringing that person and The San Diego Chargers "GOOD LUCK" this coming season!! Super Bowl XXXII - Denver Broncos Championship Video [VHS]ReviewsFor total sporting pleasure this video is for you I know you remember the day, January 25,1998. The Packers came in with high hopes, but the Broncos had other plans. It was hectic for all the fans all until the final seconds remaining when still we didn't really know who was going to win. It came down to that last chance that Green Bay had to score. As he threw everyone's attention was on the screen. Brett Farve threw the ball!!!! I think it was Atwater and Gordon who in just the knick of time bocked the pass.My stomach curled all until the last drop.It was over the Denver Broncos were now officially The Superbowl XXXII Champions. Congratulations to the team and to John Elway for his first ever superbowl win. YOU DID IT. Broncos fan, Tyra Monique Rue On January 25th, in America's finest city, San Diego California, I was struck by the power of the moment and the enthusiasm of the fans. The game was the best Superbowl in several years. The video captures the rise of the Broncos to the premiere team in the game. It highlights the emotion, drama and intensity required to be champions. So put on your favorite football jersey and prepare for a uplifting video adventure of sensational proportion. As a die hard bronco fan, i would give this video a 5 star + rating. It givies an in depth look at the broncos history, numbers, stats, and plus it gives you a review of each and every 16 reguler season games, plus a look at thge wild card game, 2 playoff games, and the super bowl. it has interviews with the owners, coaches, and players of the denver broncos. it shows you locker room meetings, and celebrations. It is a must see for any football or denver bronco fan! On a warm Sunday, January 25th 1998. The Denver Broncos came to win. While an overrated and over weight Green Bay Packer team, that was destined for defeat, merely showed up to watch. The Packers had their victory celebration in the 1st quarter after driving down the field to score a touchdown, and it cost them their 4th World Championship. The rest of the quarter, and the game, belonged to a far better team from a place 1 mile above sea level. The Denver Broncos came to San Diego to win a World Championship, and the first quarter was just the beginning. After spotting the Packers an early 7 point lead the Broncos went on a 17 point scoring spree. Behind the outstanding work of "the smallest line in football," as was repeated again and again by NBC's overly biased play by play crew, who were going "ga-ga" over Brett Favre and the Packers, throughout the entire game. Terrell Davis carried this Bronco team right through the heart of the Packer defense. This year was different from the past 13 years, the AFC had a running game and finally didn't have to rely on the passing game. Although John Elway didn't fill the air with footballs very often he made all but one of his attempts count. John Elway showed the world what he was made of in the third quarter. When faced with a 3rd down and long situation he threw himself through the air into three Packers, and all of the living rooms in America. When the dust had settled he came up with a monumental 1st down that led to the second of Terrell Davis' 3 touchdowns. Terrell's 3rd score was so easy that he could have eaten dinner while he was going over the goal line. There was not a Packer within five yards of him, or the goal line thanks to the offensive line. The Broncos' defense rose to the occasion all but four times during the game, keeping the Packers offense where they belonged. On the sideline, watching the true master of the Quarterback position perform his magic. John Elway guided his team, the Denver Broncos,! to the 1997 World Championship by winning Super Bowl XXXII. END Average Rating:![]() |

Super Bowl XXXI - Green Bay Packers Championship Video [VHS]ReviewsGreat video about a great season.........what more can I say? Very well done, definately a must have for all cheeseheads! This is a great way to remember the Packers the way they were, not the way they are now. Let's bring Holmgren back. He was the best coach the Packers ever had. Sorry Vince. "Bad Moon" Rison's TD to start the game and Farve's excited run across the field should put shivers down the back of any loyal Packer-Backer!! I am sure Packer fans will love it. But for someone just interested in a super bowl video, I think this is the worst I've seen. Not the "traditional" super bowl video. More of a Packer retrospective. As someone who now owns every super bowl video from the first to the 39th, I was dissapointed. Packers fans must have this video, because it depicts the 1996 World Champion Packers from Opening Day 1996 to Super Bowl XXXI with a look at Green Bay's Championship past as only NFL Flims can pull it off. This excellent video by NFL films is a must own for any Packer fan. It tells the tale of a small midwestern city who go's on to dominate the NFL in a magical season(only in the NFL). Plus it documents the day I had been waiting for and talking about all my life to that point watching my beloved Packers playing and winning the Super Bowl. Like said before a must own for any Packer fan. This video never gets old. Average Rating:![]() |

NFL Greatest Games Series: Green Bay Packers Greatest GamesReviewsThis is a must have for any packer fan who wants to re-live the great games that we watched when we were younger or if you loved to watch Brett Favre in action. The only bad thing I can say is that some plays are cut from some games, not all of the games but 1 game specifically was missing a few plays. Brought back some great memories watching these games! I am so happy with this series of football games. We are Brett Favre fans and Packer fans. It is wonderful to see the games in their entirety. We can watch one of the NFL's greatest quarterbacks do his stuff. The quality of the DVD's is perfect and the price was very low. It's a treasure we will enjoy forever. I was very PLEASED with it however when I recieved my item, the little plastic rods that hold the Dvds in their plastic holders was broke. I wish they would have designed a better system to keep the Dvds more intact!! Otherwise it is a pleasure to watch!!!!!!!!! I'm only 18 years old, and I'm a huge packers fan. Iv loved the packers ever since i can remember. I received this gift for Christmas and am in love with it. Watching it is like actually sitting there on your couch on the Sunday or Monday night watching the game. I was to young to see most of the history like the last Superbowl the packers won, Favre replacing Majowski for his first packers game, the redskins and packers highest scoring Monday night game, Brett Favre playing like a MVP in the mid 90s, and Favre's Monday night tribute to his father. I give this item 5 stars and recommend it to anyone who loves the packers, is young like me, or just wants to watch old games that they watched when they were younger. THESE GAMES ARE FANTASTIC!!!! NFL: Favre 4 EverReviewsThis DVD was a great overview of Brett Favre's life before and during his play for the Packers. It covered a lot of personal details that I didn't know, nor did the 2 family members I watched it with. It is well worth a look, and value priced as well. I have watched this repeatedly and think this dvd is very well made. It is liking watching poetry in motion when Brett throws, and you will get tears in your eyes watching the segment on when his father passed away and how he played that game, perhaps his best ever. Why is Brett Favre so adored? He may be known as the "gunslinger" but he is also all heart and plays football with the passion and enthusiasm his fans admire him for. I think that Billy Bob Thorton narrating this dvd was the icing on the cake. My brother paid $20 for this dvd at a local store and I got it on Amazon for $5 sale. We love Farve, but my cheesehead hubby, born and bred, gagged on the "greatness" of Brett. Good for the collection. This is a great dvd to remember all the great things about Brett. I rate this highly and Amazon shipped it so fast and better than other stores online. I am a Packer and Farve fan 4 ever. Aspect ratio 1.33:1, what a terrible choice. I would like something I can look back at in the future. The format already annoys me. Like BluRay over HD, 16:9 will remain and 4:3 is dead. Average Rating:![]() |

NFL Films - The Green Bay Packers - The Complete HistoryReviewsThat was why I bought this product and I loved it. The Ice Bowl was the coldest game in NFL history. Basically it was the original broadcast game, but with commentary by players. I was not disappointed! The other disc contained the history of the team, which I found very educational, I learned a lot about the team from this product. And I will be watching the Ice Bowl again and again. My husband is a big Packers fan and loved this dvd. One dvd was an overview of the Packers' history from their beginning. I'm sure it's not indepth but hit the team highlights. The other dvd is a recreation of the famous "Ice Bowl". My husband loved it, I loved it! My husband has videos that show bits and pieces of the game but not in it's entirety like this one does. I thought with the resources they had available to them they did a great job and it was like watching a game you taped yourself from the tv but without the commercials! This was a great buy at a great price. My brother loved it, he has been a packer fan since the 60's. Thanks for providing great shipping. Anyone interested in NFL football history would enjoy this dvd. A great documentary about the GB Packers and the famous Ice Bowl. Worth watching. If you are a Packer fan this is an incredible two disc set. The ice bowl dvd alone would be worth the price, but the history of the packers is an excellent product by itself. Average Rating:![]() |

That First Season: How Vince Lombardi Took the Worst Team in the NFL and Set It on the Path to GloryReviewsThe setting of this book is 1959. The Green Bay Packers have struggled under several coaches, the latest being Scooter McLean. Lombardi is hired to turn around the losing culture in Green Bay. As most football historians know, the 1959 season set the tone for the dominance in the 1960s. Also discussed early Packer history, which should be a plus to Packer fans and does a good job with Lombardi, Hourning's , and Starr's backgrounds in particular. Not the first Lombardi book I would read but recommended. Recommended for Lombardi and 60s Packer fans- When Pride Still Mattered- David Maraniss Instant Replay- Jerry Kramer Vince- Michael O Brien Ice Bowl- Ed Gruver Per the title, That First Season tells the story of Vince Lombardi's first season with the Green Bay Packers in the late 1950s. Lombardi took a team that was a complete laughingstock and turned it into a winning team that in future seasons would dominate the league. The author does a good job of compiling facts and opinions from a variety of sources, including interviews, to form a cohesive story about Lombardi's transformation of the Packers. I particularly enjoyed the fact that the author chronicled both the on the field and off the field changes that Lombardi produced; each game gets about 4 pages of play-by-play coverage, and topics like expectations of players behavior while in public are also discussed at length (Packers players could drink at bars in Green Bay, but only if they were sitting down-- standing and drinking could give the team a bad reputation). While the book might not be groundbreaking, I think most fans of the Packers or people with an interest in sports history will find it worthwhile. In That First Season , sports biographer-John Eisenberg-tells the story of Vince Lombardi's coming to the small town of Green Bay to coach the Green Bay Packers. In 1958 the Packers finished one of their worst seasons and were looking hard to turn things around. Native New Yorker, Vince Lombardi, became the man. This book chronicles how a tough-nosed man who had never been a head coach led the undisciplined and "Detroit-Lion-Like" Packers to several championships - with basically the same team of players. I enjoyed this book from the perspective of being a Packer fan, Wisconsin native and leader of a team - pastor of a church. This is an inspiring book on the importance of a coach on a football team. The methods and tactics that Lombardi installed in Green Bay would be very difficult to the modern football star who makes so much more money than the head coach. Lombardi's leadership focused on fundamentals, preparation, discipline, training, hard work, loyalty, perseverance, and strategy. This well-told tale of the Green Bay Packers' first season under Coach Vince Lombardi will be an enjoyable read for any football fan. Author John Eisenberg paces the story well, including well-chosen details while keeping the story moving forward. While there are a lot of characters in the book, I liked how Eisenberg introduces them gradually at appropriate points. Lombardi is clearly the main character and "That First Season" shows him as a vastly more complex person than his image as a strict disciplinarian would suggest. Yes, he pushed the players hard and demanded hard work and commitment. But he also knew when to when to praise rather than punish, and how to negotiate with players to get their best effort. "After Lombardi tore you down, he always came around later, flashed that grin, hit you on the shoulder, complimented you, and asked about your kids, and suddenly, instead of being angry, you just wanted to play better," Eisenberg writes. There was no free agency in those days, so it's striking to see that Lombardi built a winning NFL team with largely the same players who had been on the one-win team a year earlier. After Lombardi, quarterback Bart Starr is the book's next most prominent character, and it's amazing to see how he evolved from a quiet, unassuming bench warmer to a commanding leader on the field. I do wish the book had more pictures, especially of players off the field. In June of 1959 at the first Green Bay Packer pre-season quarterback camp new coach Vince Lombardi addressed six quarterbacks of which only three would make the team. One of the players at that meeting was future Hall Of Famer Bart Starr. Starr was not only "not" on the way to a Hall Of Fame career at that point... but his first two years with the Packers had resulted in won/loss records of 3 & 9 and 1 & 10. In fact their most recent season 1958 had been the worst season in the forty-year history of the Green Bay Packers. Coach Lombardi who had never been a head coach in the professional or college ranks... though he was an assistant coach on New York Giant NFL championship's... knew what he wanted to accomplish in Green Bay... and how he would accomplish it. Lombardi did not mince words... and the entire future legacy of a franchise was set when Lombardi delivered the following *OPENING* salvo: "GENTLEMEN... WE'RE GOING TO RELENTLESSLY CHASE PERFECTION, KNOWING FULL WELL WE WILL NOT CATCH IT, BECAUSE PERFECTION IS NOT ATTAINABLE. BUT WE ARE GOING TO RELENTLESSLY CHASE IT BECAUSE, IN THE PROCESS, WE WILL CATCH EXCELLENCE." "HE PAUSED AND STARED, HIS EYES MOVING FROM PLAYER TO PLAYER. THE ROOM WAS SILENT." I'M NOT REMOTELY INTERESTED IN BEING JUST GOOD," HE SAID WITH AN INTENSITY THAT STARTLED THEM ALL." When there was a break in the meeting an hour later... Starr ran to a phone and called his wife at home in Alabama and said: "HONEY, WE'RE GOING TO START TO WIN," HE SAID BREATHLESSLY. THE GUY TALKED ABOUT PERFECTION!" From that place in time forward the author details the fury and passion that defined the Italian-Brooklyn-born Lombardi who became a savior... in of all places... frigid Green Bay. He worked the ballplayers harder than they'd ever been worked. Former college All-Americans were throwing up on the practice field. Coach Lombardi threatened the team that if they didn't do things his way he'd get rid of them... and get rid of some of them he did. The players hated him... but in the end they loved him... for what he forced them to become. What the Green Bay Packers were before Lombardi's arrival was not only a losing team... but a team known throughout the league as quitters. When Lombardi reviewed the prior season's game tapes... especially the November 2, 1958 game against the Baltimore Colts in which they lost 56-0... it wasn't just the score... it was the fact the players quit trying. This added even more fuel to his fire and passion... if that's humanely possible... and every practice became a personal quest to transform Lombardi's desire for a team that would always leave every ounce of sweat... blood... and tears... on every field... whether in practice or in a game... all towards the goal of excellence... victory... and being able to look each other in the eye... knowing they never quit. Interestingly portrayed along with the Packer's coach and players are the opposing NFL stars of that generation... and the entire town of Green Bay whose lives are built around the fortunes of their hometown team. The reader will be made well aware of how Lombardi built the foundation of a team that in 1959 had its first winning season since 1947... that would play for the NFL championship in 1960 and win the NFL championship in 1961,1962,1965... and win the first two Super Bowl's in history in 1966 and 1967. And as all fans know today... the Super Bowl Trophy is called the *LOMBARDI-TROPHY*. All this reinvigoration of a once proud Packer franchise had to start somewhere... and where it all started was in... "THAT FIRST SEASON". Average Rating:![]() |

When Vince Lombardi took the job of coaching the Green Bay Packers in 1959, he inherited a team that had gone from legendary to laughing stock. They hadnât fielded a winning team in over a decade and had gone 1-10-1 in the 1958 season despite having seven future Hall of Famers on the team... |

Instant Replay: The Green Bay Diary of Jerry KramerReviewsI'm not a fan of the Green Bay Packers but this book is outstanding! Any NFL fan would enjoy this book. Jerry Kramer gives the reader a great behind the scences look at professional football. Not only does this book serve as a great piece of NFL and Packers lore, but it's a timeless testament to the dedication of the American football player. Things have no doubt changed a lot since 1967, but "heart" is a constant. The chronological approach to this piece helps relate Jerry Kramer's valuable insights and leaves the reader with a better understanding of the football experience, at all levels. Born and raised in Fort Worth, I have been a Dallas Cowboys fan for decades. I was 13 years old and watched every minute of the "Ice Bowl", and still feel a twinge of regret over Bart Starr's quarterback sneak (helped by the blocking of Jerry Kramer) that won the game for Green Bay. I bought Instant Replay the year it came out, and I read it every two or three years, to get me geared up for the football season. My first edition copy is well worn and beloved. Indeed, reading the other reviews, I am struck by how many people also admit to re-reading this book. And no wonder. Mr. Kramer simply wrote a beautiful love-story about football. You get the feel of the locker room, of the players preparing for each game, and of the game itself. Names from the past float by, such as Alex Karras and Bob Lilly. Vince Lombardi is huge, of course, and the stories about him are simply fun to read (interestingly, Vince would not allow any photographs of him in Jerry's book, since Vince planned on writing his own book). As others have noted, the Packers were an aging team, and Jerry writes vividly at one point about how, as he gazed around the locker room, he saw players getting shots, getting taped up, etc., all evidence of their aging, breaking bodies. Instant Replay transcends team loyalty. Any fan of football will enjoy this book. Buy a good copy and be prepared to read it several times over the years. This is a classic look at one of the greatest football teams of all time, headed by one of the greatest coaches of all time: the incomparable Vince Lombardi. The book started out with a desire to keep a journal of a year in football from training camp through the end. Serendipitously, this particular year turned out to be the third straight (and unprecented) championship year for the Green Bay Packers -- and featured a spectacular end-of-the-game play by the author. I wouldn't call myself a rabid football fan (that would be my husband), but this was an excellent book for anyone with a passing interest in football. I read this book twice: once when I was a kid shortly after it was initially released, and again several years ago. It was just as interesting a read the second time as it was the first. I recently bought a copy of this re-released version for a friend. I thumbed through it and noticed some additional photo's have been added since the release of the paperback edition that I own. Anyone who has an interest in football will want to read this book, despite the fact that it relates to events that took place 30 years ago. If you're my age, it will bring back memories of the glory days of the Packers (back when a water bucket was a tin pail with a ladle on the sidelines). If you aren't old enough to remember those days, the names in the book will most likely be familiar to you as great characters in football history. Average Rating:![]() |

In 1967, when Jerry Kramer was a thirty-one-year-old Green Bay Packers offensive lineman, in his tenth year with the team, he decided to keep a diary of the season. âPerhaps, by setting down my daily thoughts and observations,â he wrote, âIâll be able to understand precisely what it is that draws me back to professional football... |

Life After Favre: A Season of Change with the Green Bay Packers and their FansReviewsThe first copy of this book i received was missing several pages at the beginning, but of course Amazon took it back and replaced it at no extra charge to me. (With the thousands of books they sell, this has to happen sometimes.) Perfect Christmas present for my father, who is a die-hard Packer fan!!! I ordered two...and my son and I have enjoyed this book enormously. Hopefully there will be more from Hanrahan as his writing style has an across the board appeal. I am not a raved Packer or pro football fan, but I do live in Wisconsin and after a ten year absence due to school and military service, I was happy to return over thirty years ago. The last book I read about the Packers was Jerry Kramer's classic, Instant Replay. When I was given Life After Favre I was told that it was more about the culture of the Packer fan, and in particular, those who live around those Sunday afternoons at the many taverns and bars that are such a large part of Wisconsin's culture. The book lived up to that preview and then some. It's not so much as a rehash of the 2008 season, but it's about the inner operations of this hallowed franchise that became a national icon during the great Lombardi years, and then with Brett Favre. This book is not just for those who are Packer fans, but for any sports fan that is curious regarding how this professional franchise has survived as the only publicly owned NFL team. The inner workings and politics have been well research by the author who really cares about his team and wanted to learn more about it. It's a fast and easy read that can be read in small or larger doses. However, for me, once I got into it, I found myself focused into the book while baseball games were in the background. What a great gift for the fan and non-fan of the Packers, the NFL, and pro sports. --Mick Faulhaber All too often diaristic year-in-the-life-of-the-team sports books are formulaic, dull, and lifeless. This is none of those; in fact, it's the exact opposite. Hanrahan finds numerous unmined corners in the well-traveled Packers mythology, and he draws an evocative portrait of the unique relationship between the team, the city, and its nationwide fanbase. And I'll agree with previous commenters in saying that there are numerous chill-inducing scenes. It's a refreshing literary change in a genre filled with few great offerings. As the previous reviewer said, this isn't a book about Favre. Yes, it's about the Midwest and Wisconsin, Green Bay and Lambeau field, and rookies and veterans. But really it's about identity and what it means to play for or (maybe more importantly) to root for the Green and Gold in its first year without its most recognizable face of the last two decades. Hanrahan is an excellent writer, effectively navigating the intersection of professional sports and human interest. This is sports writing at its best--funny, literate, and truly moving at times. I challenge anyone not to feel chills as Hanrahan describes lifelong Packers fans watch Favre play his first game in Jets kelly green. Favre fans, Packers fans, Jets or Vikings fans, football fans, and really anyone simply interested in people will find something to love in this book. Sure, we learn a lot about state of Wisconsin and the Midwest U.S., Lambeau field and the town of Green Bay, NFL veterans and NFL rookies, but in the end, what we know is that even in a year where they go 6 and 10, the Packers and their fans really are "No. 1."
