The St. Louis Cardinals (also referred to as "the Cards" or "the Redbirds") are a professional baseball team based in St. Louis, Missouri. They are members of the Central Division in the National League of Major League Baseball. The Cardinals have won a National League record 10 World Series championships, second only to the New York Yankees in Major League Baseball who have 26.

The Cardinals were founded in the American Association in 1882 as the St. Louis Brown Stockings, taking the name from an earlier National League team. They joined the National League in 1892 and have been known as the Cardinals since 1900. The Cardinals began play in the current Busch Stadium in 2006, becoming the first team since 1923 to win the World Series in their first season in a new ballpark. They are the oldest current professional sports franchise west of the Mississippi. The Cardinals have a strong rivalry with the Chicago Cubs that began in 1885.

This set is fantastic. If you're a Cards fan and want to relive this improbable post-season, you must get this set.

Why is it that the format of the 2006 World Series is different from the 2005 World Series between the White Sox / Astros? The A & E box set of the 2005 World Series is recorded and distributed in 16:9 HD and its in Widescreen, it looks amazing, its so sharp and the audio sounds so much better, the players and the background look so realistic, but when you put on one the games for the 2006 World Series its sharp, but its very disappointing. Its recorded and distributed in 4:3 Standard aspect and its fullscreen. The players look like twigs, they dont look proportionate compared to the 2005 World Series where they look so realistic. In all fareness, the picture is sharper than the 2004 Red Sox World Series which I also own, the picture quality on that is just awful but also keep in mind that it was before HD or on the brink of HD and most of those games went way over the 3 hour mark, its understandable, but if your going to make the 2005 World Series in such high quality wouldn't it be expected that the 2006 World Series which by the way was not as interesting as the year prior also be released in HD widescreen format? It doesn't make sense, if their introducing an amazing format the year prior, why would they go back to the standard version when they have the capability of presenting it in a much crisper format. Im disappointed because the only reason I bought it was because of the format, thinking that it was like the 2005 World Series it would also be in widescreen HD, but it wasn't. Lets be honest, the games were boring. The best DVD on the set isnt even any of the World Series games, but the Game 7 of the NLCS against the Mets. So without the inspiration of the widescreen HD format like the World Series prior, why should anyone buy this set? As a baseball fan it sucks because A&E gave you a taste of what baseball can really look like, they got you hungry and craving then they go back to their original sub-par format. I just hope that if the Yankees win the world Series within the next decade or two, that they convert it into the widescreen HD format... it would be nice.

This DVD set has all 5 games with Detroit, and games 5 and 7 of the Mets series. Of course, commercial free with great audio and video. World Series victories don't come around often, and this set offers a great way to preserve those memories. I have been watching replays of these games on Fox Midwest, but twenty years from now (when the Cards have wrapped up 5 or 6 more WS victories thanks to coach of the year 2021 Albert Pujols) these games will still be preserved for me, long after they are regulars on cable TV. The bonus DVD is neat too, with interviews from many on the team. A lot of funny stuff, with people spraying champagne all over eachother while trying to interview. Good, candid stuff that you don't get to see during the course of a regular season. If you or your loved one is a serious Cardinals fan like I am, this is a must have!!! -Dave

First off, I'll say that I am not a Cardinals fan. This is a great DVD set, the best that A&E has done, although there are some minor visual imperfections, but overall the quality is very good. This set is the first without the MLB watermark logo, which seemed to be a problem with the other sets. These games are also the first to come with a spanish audio track, which is a nice touch. For those of that don't have any of the other sets, each game is divided into the innings that are easy to get to. Each case of the DVD has interesting stats on the front, a box score on the back and the play-by-play inside. The extras are also very nicely put together. This set is not just for Cardinal fans, but for those that want to preserve a little bit of baseball history.

82 was the last time this had happend and i was one so i wasent abel to enjoy it i have been and will be a cardinal fan my whole life and after 2004 and the trouble they had at the end of the season i feard 2004 would repeat it self. but that was not the case and i never gave up hope so when they beat sd and then the mets with great picing frome nlcs mvp jeff supan who piched great in 2004 to he even hit a homrun against the mets and clutch hiting frome the so man and soul patch (speizo} and yadi with with the big gam seven two run home run it seame as the the stars were all alinged and this would be the cards year but one more hurdle loomed the mighty tigers and 41 year old keny rogers who stoped the y great yankie lineup and then they swept the ockland they were on a role and looked unbeatable and so everone thought 2004 would repeat it self everyone but the cardinals and cardinal nation. and then came game 1 and the rookie reays starting i will amidt i was nervious ankiel came to mind but the reays piched a great game and all wories disaperd and scott rollen hit great for the first timr in the post season and what a great time to start and edmonds to and if it werent for rogers we might have swept carp piched a gem and the game 5 and wever shoed everyone he can be the kind of picther everyone thought he could be and he did it on the bigest stage the wourld seris seing his little broter in carinal red was great to i hope weaver resings and can do that all next season and live up to all abilty because in game five he shoed how great he can be and ecksein what a great player what a great heart he was truley the mvp he did everything clutch hits great plays it was a great year the first cardinal wourld seris win since 82 an the 10 for the cardinal it was worth the wait sory so long i had a lot to say

MLB Vintage World Series Films - St. Louis Cardinals 1964, 1967 & 1968 MLB Vintage World Series Films - St. Louis Cardinals 1964, 1967 & 1968

I just got this and have watched all three of the shows and all are so much fun to watch. To see Mickey Mantle hit four HRs off the Cards in 1964 was fantastic. To see Yaz in 1967 after his triple crown year was totally cool. And Bob Gibson, Lou Brock, Orlando Cepeda, a very young Reggie Smith in 1967 brought back so many memories. And my fav WS the 1968 with the Tigers. Al Kaline (hits like he is 20 again), Jim Northrup (hits grand slam), Denny McLain (31 game winner) and Mickey Lolich (won 3 games in series) was awesome. Bob Gibson again is classic and strikes out 17 Tigers in one game. Sure the video quality was so so and the sound a bit muddy but were talking 40-44 years ago. Even the crowd shots were cool. If you want to see true HALL OF FAMERS playing without steroids just get this and several of the other videos and you will love it. I'm not even a big Cards, Yanks, Tigers or Red Sox fan...I'm just a big baseball fan and these videos are too cool for school. Next one I gotta get is the 1972-74 Oakland A's. PLAY BALL!!!

It's excellent watching the Cardinals battle the Yankees in their last hurrah, or the impossible dream Red Sox in a classic 7 gamer, or watching them battle the Tigers in a classic tale of two different series in one. Also enjoyed hearing Harry Carey do the narration as well. Just wished they had released the Cardinals World Series highlights in one complete set like they did for the Yankees and not piecemeal.

This DVD is a great way for any Cardinals fan to experience or re-experience the 60's-era Cardinals dynasty. Brock, Gibson, and many other Cardinals greats are all here. The video pretty much shows the last pitch of each at bat that took place during the three World Series. This is great because you can watch the whole series quickly, but still follow exactly how the games unfolded. Great St. Louis baseball nostalgia here -- the old Busch Stadium is referred to as "brand new" and "state-of-the-art" a few times. Harry Caray (who started in St. Louis before moving on to Chicago) even narrates one of the films. All in all just a great DVD -- too bad the Cards couldn't win all three.

This video is just one in a series of exciting and comprehensive programs. So many of the greatest moments from America?s National Pastime are captured in the World Series DVD collection: Don Larsen?s perfect game; Bill Mazeroski?s and Joe Carter?s World Series-ending home runs; the unforgettable shots of Carlton Fisk, Kirk Gibson, and Kirby Puckett; the dynastic Yankees, Cardinals, A?s, and Reds; and the underdog champions--Dodgers, Mets, and Twins...

The St. Louis Cardinals - Greatest Games of Busch Stadium 1966-2005 The St. Louis Cardinals - Greatest Games of Busch Stadium 1966-2005

Overall this isnt a bad product from MLB. Although they continued their habit of using the same games on multiple sets. Game 3 of the 1987 World Series shouldnt have been included in this set. I would've added game 6 of the 2004 NLCS against Houston a game they won in extra innings or the Forsch no hitter game. The highlight of the set is seeing Bob Gibson in his prime in 1968 and the Ozzie Smith game winning homerun.

Not only has TV-on-DVD worked well for me for television series, it has also worked well for sports. As I have read elsewhere on the Net, I have seen the complaints about how FOX has ruined baseball's television coverage, what with the constant clutter, videogame-style presentation, etc. Last year, I purchased this 6-disc set of some of the greatest baseball games of the old Busch Stadium, home of the St. Louis Cardinals. This set came from A&E and New Video. It has games from three World Series that St. Louis was in: the '68 Series (Game 1), '82 Series (Game 7), and '87 Series (Game 3) (the first two from NBC, and the last from ABC). It also has one other game from NBC, and that is Game 5 of the '85 NLCS against L.A. (where Ozzie Smith hit that dramatic walk-off game-winner in the bottom of the 9th). It also has two FOX games: the 1998 McGwire game where he shattered the Maris HR record by hitting #62, and Game 7 of the '04 NLCS against Houston, where St. Louis advanced to the World Series against Boston. The FOX games were okay, but the first four games in this set would stand to me as being some of the best of baseball's television coverage, because in those four games, there was absolutely no clutter on the screen-- it was baseball as it was meant to be seen. Unfortunately, MLB saw fit to put their logo on the top right of the screen as a watermark, and there was no captioning either-- however, those aspects and the FOX games are the only things that detract from this fine package.

First of all I want to state that I'm not a Cardinals fan, Im a Yankee fan but most importantly Im a fan of baseball and MLB. These are great games, legendary games that all take place in the former Busch Stadium that was torn down after the 2005 season. The box set includes six games: (1) 1968 WS Tigers vs. Cardinals Game 1 Bob Gibson vs. 31 game winner Deny McLain, a game in which Gibson struck out 17. (2) 1982 WS Brewers vs. Cardinals Game 7... the clincher. (3) 1985 NLCS Dodgers vs. Cardinals Game 5. (4) 1987 WS Twins vs. Cardinals Game 3. (5) Mark McGwires' 62nd home run game overthrowing Roger Maris... the then single season home run leader. (6) 2004 NLCS Astros vs. Cardinals Game 7 that put them in the WS against the Red Sox. These are all great games especially to Redbird fans and baseball fans in general, the problem is that the quality is just awful. A&E distributes some great box sets including the Red Sox 2004 World Series, The Mets 1986 World Series, the Yankees Fall Classic Collection, the 1975 Reds World Series, The 1979 Pirates Worls Series, The 2005 White Sox World Series and all the vintage world series DVDs that they produced. The quality in these games are really awful. I was very excited about the Gibson, McLain game until I found it it was in black and white because when you watch clips of the 1968 WS, its in color. That was the first disappoitment. The second was the 2004 NLCS game, that game was shot in HD, yet it wasnt on DVD, the quality was bad. McGwire's 62nd HR was also low quality, it wasnt that great. The other games are fine and watchable because they really couldnt be remastered, they looked exactly like they did when they first came out in the 80s, but the 1st game and the last 2 for quality weren't great at all. I have the 2005 White Sox WS collection, now that is high quality, compare the "Greatest games of Busch Stadium" to the White Sox Collection and you'll see a huge difference. The White Sox collection is like your watching a movie. The Cardinals collection has great games but has many imperfections, i guess that's why when you first put on 1 of the 6 DVDs it has a little message talking about the flaws and imperfections because it definitely shows. The Bonus features help leviate the tension that you get while watching the low quality of the games. Is it worth the money? Yes if you a diehard Card fan... if not, well do what I did, when you get a good deal on it, buy it, but its not worth the cover price.

I purchases this DVD set for my husband for our 5 year anniversary. He absolutely loves it! Hours upon hours of Cardinals Baseball. What could be better!

At less than $10 per disc, this is a great collection for Cardinals fans. It will bring back a lot of memories! Each fan will have a "favorite" amongst this group of 6 games, but my favorite was the 1982 World Series Game 7. After Bruce Sutter closes out the Cards winner, you get to see thousands of fans storm the field as "We Win" displays on the outfield scoreboard. I have vivid memories of this scene, even though I was only 5 years old when it happened. One bummer is that these are the national broadcasts so they don't include local announcers on the call. But don't worry, as most of the great calls are captured as bonuses to the 6th disc. For example, the 1985 game with Ozzie Smith hitting the bottom-of-ninth winner just isn't the same without Jack Buck calling the hit (Go crazy folks!). But the bonus material includes the complete at-bat with Jack Buck on the call, including the announcers saying "this one has extra innings written all over it" and "Ozzie not the long ball threat from the left side". A priceless moment. Another thing I like about the series is that the inside cover of each disc has inning-by-inning details so you can forward to the relevant parts if you are impatient. Enjoy the memories!
